Y-Plate Vehicle Operations Enhanced With Geofencing Systems

Y-Plate Vehicle Operations Enhanced With Geofencing Systems

In response to recent media reports, Transport Malta clarifies that the geofencing system is already legislated and will be introduced on a test and trial basis in designated areas across the country. This initiative aims to enhance traffic flow and safety. In partnership with major ride-hailing platforms such as Bolt, eCabs, and Uber, Transport Malta is implementing geofencing technology to manage operations within these areas.

This system, which is used in several other countries, utilizes GPS technology to create virtual boundaries. Within these boundaries, Y-plate vehicles will not be permitted to park and wait. However, customers will still be able to reserve Y-plate vehicles from within the designated geofenced area. Drivers located outside a 250-metre radius will then proceed to the specified pick-up location provided by the customer.

Transport Malta is committed to ensuring smooth and safe ride-hailing services in key areas.

Outdoor Gyms & Playing Fields: Recreational Spaces for the Whole Family

Outdoor Gyms & Playing Fields: Recreational Spaces for the Whole Family

Life is not just about work and toil; people need free time to relax with family and friends. To facilitate this, residents need accessible gardens, open spaces, woodlands, and recreation zones close to their homes.

Local Councils are committed to maintaining and caring for existing open and recreational spaces, but the demand for more is ever-present. By creating new spaces, Local Councils, with the support of the government, aim to provide residents with areas for relaxation after a busy day or week. Enjoying time with family in gorgeous, welcoming environments is a crucial aspect of national strategies rooted in the electoral promises of both the government and the majority of Local and Regional Councils.

To promote this important facet of life for Maltese and Gozitan citizens, several initiatives have been launched to address local needs and enhance residents’ lives. This includes the development and improvement of playing fields. Projects in areas such as Naxxar, Ħal Lija, Ħamrun, and others have led to the creation of gardens, recreational spaces, and outdoor gyms, which have already started to positively impact residents’ quality of life.

These projects aim to balance work and family life by providing friends and individuals with shared recreational and physical health facilities.
