The hit franchise made waves on the island when it premiered back in 2018, welcoming a range of artists from across the country and beyond and going on to create some of Malta’s brightest young stars in Michela and Destiny Chukunyere, amongst others.

Local television has received somewhat of a boost in recent years with the great amount of content hitting our screens, including last year’s Malta’s Got Talent.

One passenger per flight stopped from boarding flights to Malta

One passenger per flight stopped from boarding flights to Malta

An average of one person per flight has been restricted from boarding an Air Malta flight ever since travel restarted on June 11th. Despite the fact that Malta’s entry requirements are not stopping tourists from going on holidays, a spokesperson for AirMalta told Times of Malta that around 160 passengers have had to be turned away from boarding. This is due to insufficient documents, with many turning up with a rapid antigen instead of a PCR test or no test at all.

Presentation of vaccine certificates issued in Malta or negative swab PCR tests taken 72 hours before arrival provide quarantine-free entry into Malta. The trend is decreasing, stated the spokesperson, as many travellers are realising what it takes to travel to the island. He also pointed out that this is not an AirMalta only problem, and that people being turned away from flights signifies an airline committed to adhering to health directives.

Car enthusiasts lament lack of police enforcement on mass gatherings

Car enthusiasts have lamented that while police seem to be focused on car meet-ups despite the fact that no regulations are being broken, authorities are doing next to nothing in trying to stop illegal mass gatherings on beaches. Footage and photos of illegal mass gatherings in the St. Julians and Sliema areas following bar closures at midnight have made several rounds throughout the past week.

Car lovers who want to meet up and share their passion in Marsa are meeting excessive police enforcement. They point out that despite this, illegal meet-ups, which all break the COVID-19 regulations, are not being given their due attention.

Roberta Metsola calls for the support of the culture and art industry

Roberta Metsola calls for the support of the culture and art industry
Jun 14 2021 Share

MEP Roberta Metsola took to Facebook to share her thoughts about COVID-19’s impact on entertainment sector. She pointed out how Malta registering another day with zero COVID-19 daily cases is encouraging and pushes to support local businesses. She puts the spotlight on entertainment, arts and culture sectors, listing all artists ranging from singers to DJs to dancers, bands, crew and anyone who ‘relies on and enjoys live performances.’

She acknowledges the plea all artists have been calling out, which is that of reopening the sector. She states that ‘when hundreds of people are allowed to cram on beaches at night, but buskers are being clamped down on, something is not working.’ Her strong message ends with Metsola stating that artists are not asking for special treatment but a level playing field and clarity. ‘They deserve answers. Culture matters.’
