After social media was taken by storm due to a rumour that ASAP Rocky and Rihanna split because the former had cheated, the fashion writer who spread it took to social media to apologise.

The tweet was shared by Fashion writer Louis Pisano, leading to sources close to the couple having to refute and condemn the rumour.

The tweet, which has since been deleted, claimed that Rihanna and ASAP Rocky have split and that they did so because he was caught cheating with shoe designer Amina Mauddi.

The shoe designer, who was been friends with the couple and has even collaborated with the Fenty brand, was forced to speak out.

She said that despite believing that an unfounded lie doesn’t deserve any response, she was reminded of how we live in a society that is so quick to speak on topics regardless of factual basis and that nothing is off limits.

‘While Rihanna is continuing to live her serene, best dressed pregnancy life, I go back to my business’ she said. Following the post, Pisano took to Twitter to comment on the rumour.

‘Last night I made a dumb decision to tweet some information I had received. I’m not going to talk about sources, blame others for a discussion that was started because at the end of the day I made the decision to draft that tweet, press send and put that out with my name on it.’

They went on to apologise to all parties involved. ‘I fully accept the consequences of my actions for my tweets and any harm they caused. I have no excuses for it.’

One third of Maltese prisoners are awaiting trial

One third of Maltese prisoners are awaiting trial
Apr 18 2022 Share

A third of all of Malta’s prison inmates are awaiting trial, something the new US report on human rights in the country deems a problem.

The report also raised concerns over the limited access that survivors of sexual violence have to governmental sexual and reproductive health services.

Malta daily Facebook 970x90

Looking at 2021, the annual report notes that the lengthy pretrial detention remains an issue on the island as authorities occasionally confine foreign suspects for more than two years pending arraignment and trial,

‘Approximately 34% of the prison population was in pre-trial detention’ it claimed, also stating that local courts rarely grant bail to foreigners, unlike they do citizens.

The document went on to state that there were no reports of coerced abortion or involuntary sterilisation by government authorities. The ban on abortion by Malta allows no exceptions for pregnancies resulting from rape or incest or even when pregnancy threatens a women’s health or life.

‘Social barriers and government policies adversely affecting the supply of contraceptives limited individuals’ ability to exercise birth control’ it said.

The report said that despite a growing proportion of female higher education graduates, women remain underrepresented in management, generally earning less than men. The report also warns that ‘significant human rights issues’ in 2021 Malta included ‘credible’ reports of detention of migrants under inhuman conditions. It also noted serious government corruption and violence (and threats) against migrants from Africa.

It did acknowledge however that the government took steps to investigate and prosecute officials who committed such abuses and corrupt acts.

This is your LAST CHANCE to travel in the EU for free and here's how to apply
Apr 18 2022 Share

In the year 2022, travelling is as precious as ever and when you’re an 18-year-old who has yet to discover the wonders of Europe – DiscoverEU is as big a blessing as you can get.

In celebration of the European Year of Youth 2022, the Erasmus+ programme is presenting young adventurers the opportunity to travel across a number of Erasmus+ programme countries.

The first application round of 2022 lasts until 21st April at noon and welcomes those born between 1 July 2003 and 30 June 2004 to travel in Europe for up to 30 days during the travel period 1 July 2022 and 30 June 2023. Those turning 18 in the second half of the year will be able to apply in the October round.

Successful applicants will receive a DiscoverEU travel pass, which encourages youths to travel (predominantly by rail) and discover Europe’s stunning landscapes and its variety of cities and towns. They will also receive a DiscoverEU discount card with over 40,000 discount possibilities on public transport, culture, accommodation, food, sports and other services.

Vice-President for Promoting our European Way of Life, Margaritis Schinas, said: “DiscoverEU gives more opportunities to travel to young people than ever before. With the European Year of Youth, we celebrate youth. We owe this to an entire generation that could not travel for the last two years. Good luck to all!”

To apply, eligible candidates need to complete a multiple-choice quiz on general knowledge about the European Union and other EU initiatives targeting young people. An additional question invites applicants to make an estimate of how many people apply in this round who are born on a Tuesday. The closer the estimate is to the correct answer, the more points the applicant gets.

Since 2018, more than 860,000 candidates applied for 130,000 travel passes available: according to the past travel survey, 66% of candidates declared that they travelled for the first time by train out of their country of residence.
