World’s second-oldest person survives COVID-19 at age 116

A French nun who is believed to be the second-oldest person in the world at age 116 has survived COVID-19 and will celebrate her 117th birthday on Thursday.

Sister André tested positive for COVID-19 in mid-January in Toulon but just three weeks later, reports have emerged that she has recovered.

The sister, who is blind and a wheelchair user stated that she didn’t even realise she had it and did not worry when she tested positive, but she was very concerned about her fellow residents.

Malta has registered 167 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 2,217 swab tests, while 165 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Tuesday 9th February 2021, 43,337 vaccine doses were administered of which 12,135 were 2nd doses.

To date, Malta has registered 19,182 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 16,490 have recovered, 286 died and 2,406 are still active.

Police officer who lost arm in hit-and-run retires after 25 years of service

Praise poured in as police officer Simon Schembri officially completed his 25 years of service on Friday, marking the end of a life-changing career.

Schembri had been victim to a hit-and-run incident in 2018 where he was dragged by a speeding car and lost his right arm in a near-fatal accident.

The officer’s daughter Leah took to Facebook to say that  despite such an impactful tragedy, she is proud of her father as he came out a stronger man after ’25 years of saving lives, helping others, going through fire for people and most of all being a patient yourself and ending it with you fighting for your life’.
