Mangia stated this during the pre-match press conference, exclaiming that the team is ‘starting a new competition’, a completely new experience.

The Maltese coach acknowledged Russia’s capability and that the team is unlikely to enjoy the same amount of possession as in the UEFA matches. Despite this, he stressed the importance of possession. Malta will face Slovakia after Russia, and then Croatia, with both matches away from home.
