Worker At Risk Of Dying After Falling Two Storeys

Earlier today, at around 1000hrs, police were informed that their assistance was needed in a residence in Triq Claire E. Engel, St Julian’s.

Police convened immediately on site and preliminary investigations showed that a 41 year old man resident of Valletta was working in a yard and fell down two storeys off a scaffolding.

A medical team was called on site and transported him to Mater Dei Hospital. He was later certified as being at risk of dying.

An inquiry has been opened and investigations by police as well as the Authority for Health and Safety on the Workplace are ongoing.

Pokemon, But Make It Van Gogh

In an innovative collaboration, Pokémon has joined forces with the Vincent van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam to introduce young audiences to the renowned Dutch artist’s work.

As part of the museum’s 50th-anniversary celebrations, a series of Pokémon-themed exhibits will be featured at the Van Gogh Museum.

Emilie Gordenker, the museum’s general director, expressed excitement about this venture, emphasizing that it offers a fresh approach for the next generation to engage with Vincent van Gogh’s art and life story.

One interactive activity guides visitors in drawing Pikachu, the iconic yellow character synonymous with the Pokémon brand. Another exhibit delves into the profound influence of Japanese art and culture on Van Gogh’s worldview and artistic expression.

This influence is evident in his correspondence with his brother Theo in September 1888, where he noted how studying Japanese art brought happiness, cheerfulness, and a deeper connection to nature.

Mathieu Galante, Director of Licensing at The Pokémon Company International, noted a significant connection between the inspiration behind Pokémon and Van Gogh’s masterpieces.

Through this collaboration, they aspire to witness children immersing themselves in the world of art through the extraordinary works of both Van Gogh and Pokémon.

This unique collaboration will be open to the public until January 7, requiring a regular museum ticket for entry. Pokémon, which originated as a Game Boy game in Japan in 1996, rapidly evolved into a global phenomenon.

Over a quarter-century later, these beloved creatures remain a cultural touchstone, bridging generations and inspiring a resurgence in popularity after the release of “Pokémon Go” and the film “Detective Pikachu” in 2016.

Having landed in Malta for the MED9 summit, European Commission president Ursula von der Leyen took a morning stroll near the country’s Dingli cliffs.

Describing the cliffside and nature as beautiful, Leyen took some time to admire the landscape before going on with her day.

She went on to join Prime Minister Robert Abela for a visit to Nadur, Gozo’s primary school along with Gozo Minister Clint Camilleri.

The summit will see many leaders from the Europe, including Emmanuel Macron and Giorgia Meloni, convening in Valletta for various discussions relating to topics like migration, human trafficking, climate change and much more.
