Work hard, party harder: a 108 year old’s advice

Work hard, party harder: a 108 year old's advice
Mar 21 2023 Share

Mary Ann Clifton, known by loved ones as Rosina, has given out advice as the secret to live a long life – and we might want to listen, as she is a whopping 108 years old.

According to Rosina, a long and happy life consists of a ‘tipple at lunchtime’ and ‘partying.’ (For the uninitiated, tipple is slang for alcoholic drink).

Ms Clifton, who met the Mayor of Bromley at a surprise afternoon tea party by the care home team, received a birthday telegram from the new king himself.

She went on to explain that a drink in the afternoon has never done her any harm. She encouraged those listening to work hard as it won’t hurt you either. However, people need to supplement the work ethic with an enthusiastic drive for partying with friends and loved ones.

Rosina was born on 16th of March 1915 in South London. She went on to work as a clothing cutter and then joined her daughter’s printing business. The mother of two, grandmother to four, great-grand mother to 10 and great-great-grandmother to seven, Rosina was described as a much loved and popular resident.

Heavy traffic reported yesterday: 2 hour commuting times

Heavy traffic reported yesterday: 2 hour commuting times
Mar 21 2023 Share

Heavy traffic all over most of Malta was reported yesterday late afternoon, most notably at around 1600hrs – the times people normally commute back home after work or school.

Many reported that it took them upwards of two hours to drive back home, with various localities reporting absolute standstills.

Facebook page Maltese Roads Traffic Updates also posted to highlight the issue, with a photo of a traffic standstill along Ta’ Xbiex in the direction of Msida.

Updates on the comments section also revealed that there were road closures contributing to the traffic jams, with the direction to Valletta also experiencing the same phenomenon.

Other commenters expressed their frustration at the issue, calling, once again, for any form of action by the authorities to be taken to solve it.

Were you stuck in traffic yesterday?

Facebook videos show narrow ‘two way’ road car jams in Imsida

Facebook videos show narrow ‘two way’ road car jams in Imsida

Videos uploaded to Facebook by Catalin Azzopardi show Triq San Lwiġi, which is a supposed two way road for drivers.

However, the videos show clearly how the road is not wide enough for the road to allow two lanes, with driver altercations and even crashes reported frequent on the road.

‘Footage which describes the mediocrity which us residents and our children go through. A problem which has gotten worse and even more insufferable. It’s a miracle to wake up and not find a new bump on one’s car’ wrote Azzopardi.

The road was also highlighted to have no pavements for children and other residents more in need to use, putting their life at constant risk when using the road.

A meeting had reportedly taken place in the local council, with the road only being considered as ‘one way’ for a single day.

Another video uploaded at 1900hrs shows the exact same traffic jam problem, with Azzopardi calling for real action to be taken to solve this urgent issue. What do you make of this?

According to Rhi, who runs the blog ‘Moving On, Up & Away’, the ‘biggest and best flea market in Malta’ offers everything from house plants, car parts, tools, glasses, brass-wear, ‘questionable used old makeup’ and ‘more characters packed into one small space than I’ve ever seen before.’

The flea market on Sunday is, according to Rhi, amazing for people watching.

‘We’ve seen people dressed like 14th century noblemen, women in full on Saturday night club gear, complete with stilettos, people pushing their dogs along in a pushchair, hippies, goths and just about everything you can imagine in-between.’

Have you ever been to the Flea Market?
