Woman suffering life threatening miscarriage not allowed to terminate pregnancy

Woman suffering life threatening miscarriage not allowed to terminate pregnancy
Jun 22 2022 Share

Pro-choice NGO Doctors for Choice Malta have highlighted the story of a 16-week pregnant woman who is running the risk of infection due to undergoing a miscarriage.

She is currently fearing for her life as doctors at Mater Dei Hospital are refusing to terminate the pregnancy after her water broke prematurely around a week ago. The woman, who is a US citizen, is still waiting for insurance clearance to be able to be evacuated out of Malta to another country.

Her request to terminate the pregnancy was denied and was told doctors can only intervene if she is imminently dying. ‘Not even getting an infection is enough.’

Doctors are unwilling to even discuss the option of abortion with her as she is being forced to wait at the hospital, her life in jeopardy. ‘The family is rightly distraught and desperate for a solution’ the post read.

With Malta being the only EU country with a total ban on abortion, the call by activists and many others has been consistent in demanding the access to abortion as healthcare. The EU also constantly looked at Malta for not legalising the practice whenever the topic comes up.

Pop star Billie Eilish has came out candidly abut the prospect of having children, expressing her desire to become a mother in the future.

Speaking in a brand new interview, the singer went into everything concerning her family, feeling unsafe in America and her demanding tour schedules.

During the interview, the 20-year-old said that she worries about having children, saying that she dreads it but wants to be a mum. ‘I would rather die than not have kids. I need them’ she said.

“The older I get, the more I experience things, I just think, uuuugh, what am I going to do when my kid thinks that this is the right thing to do and I’m, like, no, it’s not! And they won’t listen to me.”

However, Eilish went on to open up about her worries, reflecting on the school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. She said it’s scary being a young person in today’s America, and that it shouldn’t be ok to be scared going to school.

Set to be the youngest ever solo headliner to perform at Glastonbury festival, Eilish talked about her gruelling concert schedules. She said that on the European leg of her Happier Than Every tour, she went days without seeing natural light due to her timetable.

Joseph Muscat could head Malta Professional Football Clubs Association

Joseph Muscat voted head of Malta Professional Football Clubs Association

Former prime minister Joseph Muscat could be heading the Malta Professional Football Clubs Association after his name was put into the ring.

Comprising 14 clubs from the island’s top-tier football league, the association was formed last year to represent premier league clubs. Members met yesterday afternoon to discuss the former PM’s possible appointment to head the association.

This follows Santa Lucija President Robert Micallef stepping down from the post. Around two-thirds of the clubs voted in favour, whereas other clubs, including Valletta, cited Muscat’s controversial political history.

Those in favour argued that he would elevate the MPFCA’s profile through his contacts and negotiation skills. Times of Malta revealed that MPFCA members want to move away from having the association led by a club president and instead pick someone external to the clubs.
