Rangers on a night patrol at Miġra l-Ferħa in Rabat encountered an ongoing wildfire in the Natura 2000 site at around 1:30 AM. The fire, likely caused by improperly disposed of hot charcoal from a bonfire or BBQ, was rapidly spreading due to strong winds. Rangers immediately called the Civil Protection Department to the scene, where they worked to prevent the fire from spreading further.
The wildfire affected a large area, and unfortunately, some reptiles were found dead in the aftermath.
