White House Releases First Lady Melania Trump’s Official Portrait

White House Releases First Lady Melania Trump’s Official Portrait
Jan 28 2025 Share

The White House unveiled the official portrait of First Lady Melania Trump on Monday, captured by Belgian photographer Régine Mahaux in the Yellow Oval Room, just one day before her and President Donald Trump’s 20th wedding anniversary.

The initial release mistakenly listed the year as 2024, but the First Lady’s office later clarified the correct date.

This release follows the earlier unveiling of portraits for President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, ahead of the inauguration.

Born outside the U.S., Melania is the second First Lady from abroad and the first to become a naturalised citizen in America.

In addition to her role at the inauguration, she also joined President Trump in North Carolina to assess hurricane damage. However, her specific focus for this term remains unclear, although she has previously championed children’s causes and expressed strong support for military families.

Maltese Family Who Lost House In Fire Receive Massive Support

Maltese Family Who Lost House In Fire Receive Massive Support
Jan 28 2025 Share

After the family of Maria Luana and Yan Schembri lost their home in a house fire, the pleas for support were met in a flooding of financial aid and care for the family of four.

Posts on social media calling for donations to help the mother and father, along with their son and daughter, immediately reflected the generosity of the Maltese public to help those in need.

So much so that after a few hours, Maria Luana issued a post herself, thanking everyone for the help and even urging people who wished to contribute but could not do so in time to donate instead to other organisations like Puttinu Cares and Dar Bjorn.

‘The love we found the Maltese people in general was massive. Believe me, I feel very grateful that we have so much love around us. On behalf of my family, I wish to thank everyone!’

Updated With Yan’s Statement

Yan Schembri, the father of the family who lost their house due to a fire, issued a video thanking people for their sheer generosity in donating to support them in their hardship.

Taking to social media, Yan expressed his bafflement at how many people there were who issued their support – whether financial or even through a simple message.

He opened up about how he never imagined he and his family would go through something like this, despite hearing about similar incidents from other people.

Yan shared how things he and his family worked for over years were engulfed in an instant and that this was only eclipsed by the care that people showed his family – whether they personally knew them or from complete strangers.

Maltese rapper Rheez was recently featured on a TikTok by Smerk Albo, who boasts over 262.8K followers.

The video had the TikTok creator try to guess where Rheez was from without being told directly. The first thing Rheez did was show him a tattoo of the island.

He was then asked to name someone famous, where he cheekily name-dropped himself. He then gave a shoutout to Joseph Calleja (spelled Joseph Kalaya in the video!), saying that he cleared his sample recently.

He was also asked about what type of food we eat and what colour the flag is. Rheez referenced the rabbit spaghetti and had the creator confused about the country’s flag colours.

He even dropped an ‘aw tal-bigilla!’
