What is ‘Dune’ and why is everyone talking about it?

What is 'Dune' and why is everyone talking about it?
Oct 23 2021 Share

The global cinema industry made a major return after receiving a devastating blow due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with 2021 welcoming the premiers of major films like James Bond’s No Time to Die and the sci-fi phenomenon blockbuster ‘Dune’, but how much do we really know about the latter?

Turning into an overnight phenomenon after the launch of its trailer, ‘Dune’ is a film based on the biggest and best selling science fiction novel in history and stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and a host of box office favourites. The film comes after David Lynch’s attempted adaptation in 1984, which failed to replicate the film’s prestige, with some comparing Dune to The Lord of The Rings, albeit J.R.R. Tolkien expressing his disdain towards the film with great intensity.

Simply put, ‘Dune’ follows the story of a Chosen Son attempting to overcome many forms of adversity in his journey towards embracing his destiny in the midst of a number of clever plot points and cinematic jaw-droppers and covers the first half of the book, hinting towards a potential sequel. It also brings an all-star crew with the likes of Dennis Villeneuve as director and the legendary Hans Zimmer on the soundtrack. We’re not too keen on spoilers so we’ll leave it at that but trust us when we say that you need to watch this on the big screen.

Send this to someone who LOVES Sci-fi.

The pistol with which Alec Balwin accidentally shot and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured the assistant director during filming of the film ‘Rust’, was stated to be safe, court officials have revealed.

This was highlighted in the inquiry related to the Santa Fe shooting tragedy, which left Alec Baldwin distraught and in tears near the Sante Fe sheriff’s office after the incident. The actor and producer explained that his “heart is broken” and he is “fully co-operating” with the police, going on to reveal that he is in touch with Halyna’s husband to offer his support to the Hutchins family.

A statement by the film’s production company ‘Rust Movie Productions’ said that it will be conducting a detailed review of the procedures, stating “Though we were not made aware of any official complaints concerning weapon or prop safety on set, we will be conducting an internal review of our procedures while production is shut down.”

After what some have been calling the best season of his career, Mohamed Salah has been immortalised in quite a unique way after having a wax replica of himself erected in Madame Tussauds in London. The popular wax museum and tourist attraction inaugurated the Liverpool star’s statue on Friday.

Salah has been in close contact with Madame Tussauds’ team of artists in recent weeks in order to have his measurements taken to ensure a completely accurate and identical portrayal of his resemblance. The figure can be found in the museum’s “Awards Party” zone together with the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Brad Pitt, Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and David and Victoria Becham, amongst others.
