They were all born on this day. January 8th marks the birthday of a number of iconic historical figures, past and present and we are here to tell you about them.

Elvis Presley

Elvis Aaron Presley was born in Mississippi on January 8th 1935 and went on to become the King of Rock and Roll.

The King went on to become one of the most influential figures in music and culture and passed away on August 16th 1977 in Memphis.

David Bowie

David Robert Jones, more famously known as David Bowie was born in Brixton, UK on January 8th 1947.

The enigmatic brought a never-before-seen sense of spectacle and showmanship to music and celebrity culture. Bowie died on January 10, 2016 in New York after suffering from liver cancer for 18 months.

Stephen Hawking

Stephen William Hawking CH CBE FRS FRSA was born on this day in January 1942 in Oxford, UK and was most famously known for his work as a physicist and studies in black holes, going on to write a number on best-selling books.

Hawking died in Cambridge on March 14 2018 with ALS and will forever be remembered as a theorist, physicist and author.

Noah Cyrus

Noah Lindsey Cyrus is an American singer-songwriter, daughter to country icon Billy Ray Cyrus, pop star Miley Cyrus and Metro Station’s Trace Cyrus and was born on this day 21 years ago.

Noah is most famous for her modern pop repertoire featuring collaborations with artists like Marshmello and Labrinth.

Kim Jong-un

Beyond the previous celebrity birthdays, today is also the birthday of North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un.

The politician follows the same cult of personality as his father and grandfather, whose political prowess has been surrounded by mystery and controversy for decades.

Jeffree Star denies rumours of affair with Kanye West

Make-up artist Jeffree Star has been dominating the entertainment headlines following allegations of an affair with rapper Kanye West during the Kimye divorce saga.

The make-up mogul has since shut down these rumours stating that ‘Jeffree Star is single and I’ve never slept with Kanye’.

Rumours of the affair quickly spread after the revelation of Star’s stay at Wyoming, the same state where Kanye’s ranch is situated.

Most local COVID-19 cases are between the ages of 25 & 34

In today’s COVID-19 media briefing streamed on saħħa, Superintendent for Public Health Prof. Charmaine Gauci reported a dramatic increase of COVID-19 cases in the 25-34 age group.

While reporting an increase in cases across the board, Prof. Gauci highlighted the fact that the 25-34 age group has seen the largest increase in cases due to the fact that these groups are the ones which engage in social gatherings most.

Prof. Gauci also reported that most deaths occurred between the ages of 75 and 84 as she went on to appeal for further use of masks, hygiene and avoiding of social gatherings.

191 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 77 recoveries

67 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 323 recoveries

Malta has registered 191 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,639 swab tests, while 77 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

Details on new active cases will be given by Prof. Charmaine Gauci during a press briefing at 12:30, which will be streamed on saħħa.

To date, Malta has registered 13,967 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 11,690 have recovered, 230 died and 2,047 are still active.
