West Ham player celebrates record breaking goal in a very weird way

West Ham player Michail Antonio has become the clubs all time top goal scorer in the Premier League. Michail scored twice in yesterday’s 4-1 win over Leicster City, taking his total West Ham Premier League goal tally above Italian striker Paolo Di Canio.

The Jamaican decided to celebrate this historic goal with a life size cardboard cut out of himself. He held it high and proceeded to dance with it and jokingly kiss it. The striker later told Sky Sports that his inspiration for the unusual celebration was from the film ‘Save the Last Dance’. It was later revealed that Michail had mixed up his dancing movies and meant to say that the celebration was took from the iconic lift scene in ‘Dirty Dancing’

Afghanistan’s LGBT community fearing for their lives after Taliban takeover

Members of the underground LGBTIQ+ community of Afghanistan are currently fearing for their lives as the Taliban take over the country once again. Homosexuality and intercourse between people of such sexuality were punishable by death in the country for decades. Thankfully, the law hasn’t been applied since the end of Taliban’s first regime in 2001. The recent change in political power however has raised concerns of this law being implemented once again, with even greater levels of oppression being feared.

Nemat Sadat, the first public figure in Afghanistan to advocate for LGBTIQ+ rights, spoke to news portal Insider. He revealed how many are sending him important travel details to help them escape the country. Sadat himself left the country in 2013 to live in the United States after having received death threats for his activism. He is predicting that people of the community will be weeded out and exterminated in a move similar to Nazis during WWII.

Vaccinated students should get more pre-pandemic educational experiences say doctors

The Malta College of Family Doctors stated on Tuesday that vaccinated school children deserve to have their educational opportunities increased. Following news by Prime Minister Robert Abela on Sunday that the plans to reopen schools for the new scholastic year are in full effect, the doctors urged national authorities to both prepare for adequate reopening and to increase the educational experience of kids who got their COVID-19 jab.

Under-15s started to receive an invitation for their vaccination at the end of June, with the EMA approving the Pfizer BioNTech jab the same month for 12 to 15-year-olds. The doctors pointed how since a number of teenage school children are already vaccinated, they should be able to return to educational experiences which were present before the pandemic hit. These include even extra-curricular activities which enhance their possible career opportunities.

35 COVID-19 cases registered with 40 recoveries

Malta has registered 35 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,440 swab tests, while 40 patients have recovered. 1 death was registered in the past 24 hours. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Monday 23rd August 2021, 792,173 vaccine doses were administered of which 411,306 were 1st doses. 409,969 people are currently fully vaccinated.

To date, Malta has registered 35,866 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 34,352 have recovered, 437 died and 681 are still active.

Mater Dei Hospital is currently treating a total of 37 COVID-19 positive patients, 2 of whom are in the ITU.
