Tensions heat up during the Euro final match between England and Italy as videos surfacing online show huge divided crowds facing off on St George Bay. Police could be seen keeping the two crowds at bay, as flags of both teams can be seen waving on either side.

With the game staying at a 1-1 draw, both sides are at the edge of their seats expecting a win. Police have reported earlier today that presence of authorities will be high, treating tonight as if its an election. However, cooperation by the public is greatly encouraged to protect the safety and mitigate any unwarranted spread.

Prime Minister encourages employers to convince workers to get vaccinated

Speaking on OneRadio, Prime Minister Robert Abela appealed to employers to convince workers to get their COVID-19 vaccine. The Prime Minister stated that getting vaccinated is a civic duty of responsibility and love that will help protect people from COVID-19 deaths and further spread. With Malta having around 80% of its total population fully vaccinated, the remaining 20% should get their jab as otherwise, the return to normality will be pushed further ahead. He also appealed to parents of children aged over 12 to get vaccinated and help with the rollout.

The government announced this week that those travelling to Malta without a COVID-19 vaccine certificate will be banned from doing so. The ban will not apply to Maltese residents who had travelled before the ban was put in place. The legal notice setting out the regulations for such ban will have a transitory period for such cases. Malta was also the first EU country to put such rules in place, despite the ban being a difficult one.

Robert Abela appeals to Opposition Leader to work together for vaccine rollout

Speaking on One Radio in regards to the COVID-19 situation in Malta, Prime Minister Robert Abela emphasised the importance of the vaccine to protect the entirety of the Maltese population. Abela pointed out how the opposition is not pushing the important message of vaccination to the public. He stated in regards to this epidemiological crisis, both political parties should put aside differences and work together to push for awareness about how important the vaccine rollout truly is.

Abela revealed how 80% of the population is fully vaccinated against COVID-19, meaning that around 20% of said population has for one reason or another not yet gotten vaccinated. He stated that if there is a number of unvaccinated individuals, the period of time before we can go back to normalcy will keep getting pushed forward.

He highlighted how vaccination is a civil obligation – an obligation of respect and love which protects everyone around oneself. He also revealed how the legal advice on travelling will see Maltese and Gozitan citizens living abroad and coming back to Malta being subject to the same regulations when it comes to travelling.

101 COVID-19 cases registered with 3 recoveries

Malta has registered 101 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,224 swab tests, while 3 patients have recovered. No deaths were registered in the past 24 hours. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Saturday 10th July 2021, 705,852 vaccine doses were administered of which 371,421 were 1st doses. 349,961 people are currently fully vaccinated.

To date, Malta has registered 31,061 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 30,184 have recovered, 420 died and 457 are still active.
