In his first address following today’s Labour Party election win, Prime Minister Robert Abela stated that the people have chosen for Malta to keep moving forward.

Addressing the crowds from the Labour Party headquarters alongside wife Dr. Lydia Abela, daughter Giorgia Mae and multiple Labour Party candidates and executive members, Abela stated that the past 5 years included credible results and obstacles but today’s result gives them the strength to “return to work with the humility that characterises the Labour leadership.”

Abela stated that the country needs everyone to move forward and will continue to pursue those who chose not to vote, reiterating Labour’s commitment to elevate the country’s standards and remove all arrogance from the country.

During his first mandate, Abela aims to usher in a new phase where Malta continues to the good which has been already established, calling upon the people to contribute to the implementation of Labour’s manifest to turn the 1,000 proposals into 1,000 goals.

Mandy Mallia, sister of assassinated journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia has stated that Malta has “failed Daphne yet again, but above all, it has failed itself.”

This comes after the Labour Party’s recently-announced electoral victory, the third consecutive general election win since they first got elected in 2013 with a significant majority, during which Joseph Muscat was Labour Party leader.

In a subsequent comment, Caruana Galizia’s sister Mandy Mallia stated that “It goes without saying that the fight for justice for Daphne and for her stories will go on until all the bastards are where they belong: behind bars for as long as possible.”

The 2022 general election is the first election to take place after the 2017 murder of Daphne Caruana Galizia, the case which shook Malta to its core and raised concerns about the stability of Malta’s climate with multiple corruption scandals being unveiled throughout the years.

Joseph Muscat addresses Labour victory in lengthy post; “The Movement won again”

Joseph Muscat addresses Labour victory in lengthy post; "The Movement won again"
Mar 27 2022 Share

In a post-election victory comment, former prime minister Joseph Muscat took to Facebook to state that ‘the movement won again’.

This comment and the subsequent few paragraphs refer to the movement birthed from Muscat’s first tenure as Labour leader, a turning point in the history of the Labour Party which lead to the eventual electoral domination up until today’s landslide electoral win.

In his Facebook post, Muscat highlighted that not only is the movement still alive, but stronger than ever – stating that it was not created out of political convenience but as a political, social and economic project which changed, and will continue to change Malta.

The former Prime Minister also stated that it is clear that the people refuse to accept the negativity they were subjected to, appealing to the Labour Party to reinvent itself and analyse the reasoning behind the unprecedented amount of non-voters, sustaining that superficial analysis is not enough.

He went on to state that he has no advice for the Nationalist Party and doesn’t think they would want it, choosing ‘to only highlight historical facts’ such as “the last time the PN secured the absolute trust of the majority for its governmental program in normal circumstances was in 1992. The 1998 election was premature amid crisis whilst the 2003 was a decision on the European Union. in 2008, there was only a relative majority of less than one chair. From 2009 until now, the Labour Party consistently secured the trust of around 55% of the people and the PN around 43%.”

What do you make of this?
