WATCH: Massive celebrations on Malta’s streets following Euro 2020 final

Following the intense match which saw Italy emerge victorious over England, Maltese football fans took to the streets all over Malta to celebrate.

With fireworks blasting through the air, fans took to carcading, honking their horns and waving their flags in the merrymaking. Some fans also took to the streets on foot, fully embracing Italy’s grasping of the cup.

The game was an intense one, having stayed at a draw for a good portion of the match. It was down to penalty rounds, with Italy delivering the final goal to seal the deal. Police presence in Malta was mainly focused on Paceville due to the Entertainment Mecca’s centre being a hub of celebration and gatherings.

Italy win the Euro 2020 cup

Italy have emerged victorious over England for the Euro 2020 cup. The game was a heated match as both teams gave it their best to lay their hands on the magnificent trophy. The first goal came in the second minute for England by Luke Shaw. Italy followed up during 67th minute with a terrific goal by Leonardo Bonucci.

The game stayed in a draw for the majority of the match, with extra time providing plenty of opportunities for both teams to land their second winning goal. It was eventually down to Italy to emerge victorious, winning the penalty kicks with a 3-2 score.

WATCH: Tensions heat up between England and Italy fans

Tensions heat up during the Euro final match between England and Italy as videos surfacing online show huge divided crowds facing off on St George Bay. Police could be seen keeping the two crowds at bay, as flags of both teams can be seen waving on either side.

With the game staying at a 1-1 draw, both sides are at the edge of their seats expecting a win. Police have reported earlier today that presence of authorities will be high, treating tonight as if its an election. However, cooperation by the public is greatly encouraged to protect the safety and mitigate any unwarranted spread.

Prime Minister encourages employers to convince workers to get vaccinated

Speaking on OneRadio, Prime Minister Robert Abela appealed to employers to convince workers to get their COVID-19 vaccine. The Prime Minister stated that getting vaccinated is a civic duty of responsibility and love that will help protect people from COVID-19 deaths and further spread. With Malta having around 80% of its total population fully vaccinated, the remaining 20% should get their jab as otherwise, the return to normality will be pushed further ahead. He also appealed to parents of children aged over 12 to get vaccinated and help with the rollout.

The government announced this week that those travelling to Malta without a COVID-19 vaccine certificate will be banned from doing so. The ban will not apply to Maltese residents who had travelled before the ban was put in place. The legal notice setting out the regulations for such ban will have a transitory period for such cases. Malta was also the first EU country to put such rules in place, despite the ban being a difficult one.
