Students, Sandra Gauci & administration address Junior College’s SERIOUS toilet problem

Students, Sandra Gauci & administration address Junior College's SERIOUS toilet problem
Oct 20 2022 Share

On Wednesday, ADPD’s Sandra Gauci took to Facebook to shed light on the seemingly critical bathroom situation at the Ġ.F. Abela Junior College.

Gauci revealed that a huge number of people have been ‘facing problems when it comes to basic human conditions’, highlighting that in the entire school, only one of 12 bathrooms is open for girls.

“There have been people bringing in bottles so that they could use them. With lines taking up 15 minutes of your time to get in there,” Gauci wrote.

Speaking to Malta Daily, a number of Junior College students confirmed that multiple bathrooms cannot be accessed, with particular reference to female bathrooms. One student in particular argued that a lot of time is wasted during lectures as students would need to walk a considerable amount to access an open and function bathroom.

Addressing such issues, a Junior College administration spokesperson told Malta Daily that, due to a number of urgent unforeseen works, a total of 8 toilets (3 for males, 2 for females and 3 gender neutral facilities) had to be closed.

The administration stated that more toilet facilities are available in all blocks, floors and other areas and that the college is currently communicating with all students to direct them to all remaining available facilities, which amount to a total of 19 toilet facilities with multiple cubicles.

“Work to prevent further damage and to fix the problem has started and should be finalised in the shortest possible time. We understand the discomfort and the inconvenience caused. We assure that we have been handling the situation with urgency. We appeal to the cooperation and patience of the College Community.”

What do you make of this situation?
