WATCH: Car catches fire after crash in Mgarr, Gozo

A car accident in Mgarr, Gozo between two cars driven by foreigners led to one car catching fire yesterday evening. No people were injured in the crash but a car did ignite with those involved safely at a distance.

The fire engine took 30 minutes to arrive on the spot and put out the flame. Investigations are still underway by authorities.

Public Health Superintendent Charmaine Gauci confirmed that six people who were vaccinated with both jabs have nonetheless died due to COVID-19. She added, during a weekly COVID-19 briefing, that no vaccine is 100% efficient and thus everyone, especially the vulnerable, should remain cautious and follow measures, whether or not they have been vaccinated. Malta is currently utilising three vaccines – Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca, all of which require two doses.

So far, 166,104 doses have been administered, with 48,933 being second doses. Both Pfizer and Moderna have a 95% and 94% efficacy rate respectively, with AstraZeneca rating at 76%. With Johnson & Johnson single shot vaccine on its way to Malta. Health Authorities remind the public to still follow health measures to maximise safety and mitigate spread.

Ian Borg planning massive metro project for Malta

Ian Borg planning massive metro project for Malta

During an interview with Transport Minister Ian Borg conducted by Chris Peregin from Lovin’ Malta, the minister unveiled a huge metro project being planned which will cost billions for Malta. When asked about the project, Ian Borg pointed out that the project will take a long span of time to complete, possibly extending beyond his time in office, as one line of the metro would take around 10 to 15 years to complete. The metro will include 25 stations in 25 different squares.

Research, planning and studies required for the project are still underway. The project will require manoeuvring around several Maltese lands which include archeological spaces and environmental areas, and thus necessitates open discussion.

Red Tower in Mellieha vandalised after renovation

Despite having just been renovated, Mellieha’s historical Red Tower was found to have been vandalised overnight. The NGO Din l-Art Helwa stated on Facebook that extensive damage was done to the Tower along with illegal dumping increased in the surrounding areas. The NGO also stated that due to the pandemic, the closure of the sites has ‘drastically reduced overall income to protect these sites.’

Minister of Tourism Clayton Bartolo also took to Facebook to inform the public that after contact with the NGO, Clean Malta will be intervening to fix up the damage done to the site.
