Victoria Hotspurs have made history as the first Gozitan team to win a Maltese football league, clinching the National Amateur League 2 title.

The Hotspurs have had a historic season to remember, dominating in their first ever full campaign in Maltese domestic football.

They confirmed their league title by comfortably beating Mqabba FC and will now spend a weekend celebrating first in Malta before returning to Gozo to continue celebrations in Victoria.

It is clear that Gozo’s capital team have loftier ambitions ahead, with their aim to climb the Maltese football pyramid and reach the pinnacle of the Malta Premier League to battle alongside giants such as Hamurn Spartans and Floriana.

Partit Momentum Officially Recognised As A Maltese Political Party

Partit Momentum has officially announced its registration as a political party in Malta, following confirmation by the Electoral Commission in a letter dated 4 April 2025.

The registration, carried out under the Political Party Financing Act (Chapter 544 of the Laws of Malta), represents a major step forward for the party.

Treasurer Carmel Asciak expressed gratitude towards the Chief Electoral Commissioner and his team for their efficiency, stating: “This official registration is a testament to our journey of hope towards a better future for Malta.”

He added, “We are eager to bring Momentum’s vision and values to the forefront of Maltese politics and to work towards a more beautiful, fairer, and modern Malta for all.”

Momentum was founded by Arnold Cassola and the team that supported his MEP campaign. The party has pledged to offer the Maltese public an alternative rooted in progressive values, inclusivity, and a forward-looking approach to governance.

Their vision focuses on driving meaningful change and building a nation that upholds fairness, transparency, and sustainability at its core.

Moviment Graffitti Show Israeli Rugby Team The Red Card In Match Against Malta

Demonstrators gave a clear message during Saturday’s rugby match between Malta and Israel, holding up red cards in protest against the Israeli national team’s participation.

Around 40 activists from various local groups—including Moviment Graffitti, Ġustizzja għall-Palestina, Watermelon Warriors, Lebanese Advocates, and Youth for Palestine—gathered at the match to voice their opposition.

As the Israeli national anthem played, protestors raised red cards in unison, referencing Rugby Union’s rule where a red card signifies serious, deliberate foul play.

The demonstrators waved Palestinian flags—smuggled in despite strict security—and chanted slogans such as “Free, free Palestine,” “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” and “Boycott Israel.” The protest took place under tight police surveillance.

In a statement, Moviment Graffitti said that sport is not apolitical. “National teams represent the state and are used to build legitimacy on the global stage,” the group said, drawing parallels to Russia’s suspension from European sporting bodies after its 2022 invasion of Ukraine.

They called for similar measures to be taken against Israel due to its ongoing war in Gaza.

The activists accused Israel of engaging in “sports-washing”—using international sport to distract from its treatment of Palestinians.

They highlighted the stark contrast between the freedoms enjoyed by Israeli athletes and the obstacles faced by Palestinian sportspeople, including travel bans, imprisonment, and even death.

The protest coincided with reports from Gaza that an Israeli airstrike on a school sheltering displaced civilians had killed at least 31 people, including children.

Gaza’s civil defence spokesperson said women, children, and a pregnant woman expecting twins were among the victims.

Moviment Graffitti concluded by accusing Western governments of enabling Israel’s actions, stating that the only ethical stance is to isolate Israel from global institutions, including sports organisations.
