Throughout the month of April, thousands of families attended various open days held in various entities and organisations around the Maltese islands.

From the National Archives to the Disciplined Forces, and from EcoHive Academy to the Museum of Natural History, families were treated to educational entertainment in each of these open days.

Workers in the respective sectors provided the visitors with insider knowledge of what goes on into managing the area of interest – relating to history, the environment, safeguarding public safety and much, much more!

Prominent artists were also invited to perform at the open days, making sure to end each day with some good music and performances.

Emmanuel Cuschieri Calls For Court Protest If Joseph Muscat Charged

Labour activist Emanuel Cuschieri has declared intentions to stage a protest outside the court if former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat and others are indicted in connection to the Vitals magisterial inquiry.

Addressing supporters, Cuschieri acknowledged the widespread vocal support for Muscat but said that words need to translate into action.

He said that once a date and time for potential charges against Muscat and others are known, they will gather outside the court as a display of solidarity.

Cuschieri says that he wants to see the support and appreciation shared on online towards Joseph Muscat by supporters translate into action as soon as the date and time are provided.

Cuschieri asserted that peaceful protests are a fundamental aspect of a civilized and democratic society.

€85,000 Investment To Help Local Animal Shelters

A new initiative called the Animal Welfare Fund, backed by a €85,000 investment from the government, aims to financially support animal sanctuaries and volunteer organisations caring for animals.

This program, announced by Agriculture Minister Anton Refalo and Parliamentary Secretary Alicia Bugeja Said, fulfils an electoral promise, intending to raise awareness about the importance of domestic animals and uphold animal rights.

Refalo highlighted ongoing efforts, including reopening the Animal Hospital and initiating a veterinary course. Bugeja Said emphasized the vital role of such schemes in supporting animal welfare organizations, crucial for controlling the number of abandoned animals.

Joseph John Vella, Director of the Department for Proper Animal Treatment, outlined the fund’s criteria and priorities: education, medical care, and animal allocation. In summary, the Animal Welfare Fund represents a commitment to animal welfare, addressing immediate needs while aiming to foster a culture of responsible animal care and advocacy within the community.
