In a press release by the Ministry for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness. It was announced that 6.5 kilometres of new underground cables in Ħamrun are have been implanted.
The initiative is to further strengthen the distribution system in Ħamrun, Santa Venera, and Msida.
Enemata, in collaboration with Infrastructure Malta as well as Transport Malta have been focused on laying the 6.5 kilometres of new underground cables, with an investment of €2.5 million.
Minister for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness Miriam Dalli visited the working sit together with Enemalta’s Executive chairperson, Eng. Ryan Fava.
Minister Dalli thanked the cooperation from the communities of these loyalties and explained that the project is part of the Government’s broader vision for a more modern energy sector that will improve the living standard of families and workers.
“This continuous investment shows Government’s commitment in the energy sector. We will keep supporting the quality of life of our people as well as the country’s economy and sustainable development. Our commitment remains to build stronger communities. That is why, just like in Ħamrun, works are underway in other localities for Enemalta to enhance the resilience and flexibility of its electricity network across Malta and Gozo,” said the minister.
Eng. Fava explained that the works in Ħamrun aim for two new 11kV connections between the distribution centre in Imrieħel and substations in the heart of Ħamrun and Msida.
“This investment will strengthen the distribution system in Ħamrun, Msida, and Santa Venera. To reduce inconvenience, in coordination with Infrastructure Malta and Transport Malta, we scheduled works at night in the main roads. These works, which are in their final phase, are expected to be completed before the summer season begins,” said Eng. Fava.

A protest was held yesterday in front of the Veterinary Regulation Directorate (VRD) offices, calling for urgent action over the continued captivity of three lions and a panther kept in poor conditions in Naxxar.
Although the situation first came to light in December, activists say authorities have made no real progress toward relocating the animals to sanctuaries abroad.
The protest, organised by animal rights groups, featured several speakers expressing frustration at delays and lack of enforcement.
Althea Galea from Vuċi għall-Annimali criticised VRD’s suggestion to make the current site “adequate” rather than move the animals. “Enforcement is a joke,” she said.
TV host and animal advocate Moira Delia argued that wild animals should never have been brought to Malta. “No one here has the expertise to care for them, especially in emergencies,” she said. Joanna Mallia from Paws4Cause echoed these concerns, warning of the risks to both animals and public safety.
Mark Sultana of BirdLife Malta stressed that the animals’ welfare must come before legal delays. The protest also saw international support, including activists from Italy pledging to raise the issue in Brussels.
The event closed with a chant led by 7-year-old Tyler Pace: “Free the lions!”—a call taken up by the entire crowd.

The Malta Aquatic Sports Association (ASA), for the second time in history will be hosting the final four of the men’s waterpolo champions league, hosted at National Pool in Tal-Qroqq, between the 30th of May and the 1st of June.
Malta was chosen for the second time after the ASA’s application successfully met all the key criteria set by the European Aquatic Sports Federation, with full backing from the Maltese Government and strong collaboration from SportMalta and VisitMalta.
During the launch the Minster for Education, sport, Youth, Research, and Innovation, Clifton Grima said, “The investment we have made and will continue to make in this sector has placed our country on the global sports map. This event is the second consecutive year that we have been able to bring it to Malta, and it is another positive result of the government’s work together with sports associations.”
The Minster also emphasised the importance in government commitment to supporting Maltese sport.
This championship, which began in 1963, features the top teams from across Europe and is the most prestigious competition for professional waterpolo professionals.
President of ASA, Karl Izzo, spoke about the preparations that have been made, including the creation of a sports village at the entrance of the National Pool to enhance the spectator experience.
