Spread over five years and managed by Jobsplus, this new funding represents an increase of six million euros over the first VASTE programme. The initial phase supported and trained 2,400 participants, of whom 45% secured employment within six months of completing the programme or continued training to qualify for specific jobs.
The second VASTE programme was shaped following extensive consultations involving Jobsplus, social partners, non-governmental organisations, and other stakeholders.
Eighteen million euros have been allocated by the European Social Fund for the second phase of the VASTE programme, aimed at providing training to vulnerable individuals to help them find employment.
The programme offers tools and training for people with disabilities or vulnerabilities, those at risk of poverty, prisoners preparing to reintegrate into society, individuals recovering from drug addiction, and others facing social exclusion. It provides new skills to open pathways towards inclusion in society through employment.
“Over the next five years, Jobsplus will support more than 3,000 people from vulnerable groups by offering a range of services tailored to those with intellectual, physical or mental disabilities,” Minister Camilleri stated.
Through VASTE II, people with disabilities and special needs can integrate fully not only into the labour market but into society as a whole.
Minister for European Funds and Implementation of the Electoral Programme, Stefan Zrinzo Azzopardi, described VASTE II as a clear example of the government’s effective use of European funds to build a fairer and more inclusive society.
Building on the success of the first phase, which reached nearly 2,400 vulnerable individuals—60% of whom had disabilities—VASTE II marks a new chapter with over €18 million in funding from the European Social Fund Plus.
