Ta’ Ġieżu Church in Valletta has welcomed a new set of four bells, crafted at a renowned Dutch foundry, to complement the two recently restored bells.

Funded by the Tourism Authority and the Ministry for Tourism, these new bells will fill the air over the Grand Harbour with their harmonious melodies.

Campanologist Kenneth Cauchi explained that the church previously had bells that were not in tune, but their importance lay in the message they conveyed.

Of the two older bells, one was restored by Giovanni Bozzoli and the other by Ġulju Cauchi, both in Malta.

The four new bells were cast in the Netherlands by the Royal Eijsbouts Bellfoundry, known for producing the large bell for Paris’ Notre Dame cathedral and the Olympic bell for the London Games. The new bells were rung for the first time on October 3rd and 4th.

After months of dedicated work, the 2024 turtle nesting season has come to a successful close.

Yesterday, Nature Trust Malta (NTM) and the Environment and Resources Authority (ERA) opened the final nest, Nest 7, which, due to natural factors, did not produce any hatchlings.

Despite this, the season was a remarkable success, setting new records for turtle conservation in Malta. A total of eight nests were confirmed, the highest number ever recorded, with 594 eggs and 406 hatchlings.

These achievements underscore the continued effectiveness of conservation efforts and provide strong optimism for future nesting seasons.
