The open-air installation explores how language, gender roles, and societal expectations intersect, using public space to spark reflection and dialogue.
The exhibition reinterprets the Maltese phrase ‘bandiera bajda’ (white flag), which is often used in a derogatory context to shame women while absolving men of parental responsibilities.
Through this project, Farrell shifts the narrative by placing fatherhood at the heart of the work, questioning traditional gender dynamics and encouraging a reimagining of care and presence in family life.
By bringing these themes into the public realm, ‘Bandiera Bajda’ invites passers-by to engage thoughtfully with the messages it presents.
