The EU Parliament has decided to democratically hand Ursula von der Leyen a second term as the president of the European Commission, which sort of acts as the executive body of the European Union.
Von der Leyen won the election with the overall support of 401 MEPS, 41 more votes than the Belgian needed.
There were 284 MEPS who decided to vote against her having a second term whilst another 21 decided to abstain from voting by either leavig their ballot paper blank or by voiding it.
In her re-election speech, Ursula von der Leyen promised to strengthen Europe’s military presence in order to better defend itself amongst other pledges.
