Appearing on ‘Il-Każin’ by Jon Mallia, Minister for Education and Sports Clifton Grima responded to a question in regards to the electoral promise which would see the University of Malta get a new, modern sports complex.
The question, posed by Laura Chetcuti Dimech, asked at what stage the complex, promised in 2022, currently stands.
Minister Grima said that a €10 Million budget has already been set aside for the project and an application with the Planning Authority has already been submitted.

The project would see a football ground, an athletics track, a sports clinic, squash courts, a theatre and studio for the performing arts, as well as a parking able to take on 1,000 cars.
The Minister said that due to global inflation, prices have sky-rocketed and whoever is involved in the process are currently discussing the best way to move on with the project. The complex is also set to get two levels, making the process even more intricate.
He revealed that it was split up in two phases but more details are set to be uncovered this summer. The progress will largely depend on the basis of permits being approved.
