MEP Peter Agius To Lead EU Parliament Talks On Single Market Rules

May 6 2025 Share

Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Peter Agius has been appointed to lead negotiations on the European Union’s single market rules concerning product safety and compliance, with a focus on the role of national authorities in monitoring products across the EU. His efforts will be pivotal in shaping the upcoming legislative framework set to affect businesses and consumers across Europe.

The European Parliament is expected to adopt a resolution later this year on the New Legislative Frameworks, a comprehensive tool that will apply to all products within the EU’s single market. Agius, representing the European People’s Party (EPP), will spearhead the negotiations, advocating for a balance between reducing bureaucratic barriers for businesses and ensuring consumer safety.

In a statement, MEP Peter Agius welcomed the opportunity to lead these important discussions, saying, “I will be pushing for a Europe with less bureaucracy for business and more safety for consumers, while opening up opportunities for European businesses, particularly small and family-run businesses, which form the backbone of our economy, including in Malta.”

“We must also make sure that our European businesses can compete in Europe. This cannot happen unless we secure a level playing field with competition from China and the rest of the world. The growth of our business and our continued investment in innovation translate into safer and better products and ultimately better jobs for our workers. Let us make sure to harness the full power of the EU’s single market.” Said MEP Peter Agius.
