Prime Minister Robert Abela has confirmed that there will be a debate between the party leaders, starting with one at the University of Malta.

Newsroom Lovin Malta was informed that the Prime Minister accepted the request and promised that it will not be the only one during the month-long campaign.

Abela will be up against the Opposition’s Bernard Grech, both of whom will be contesting in the election on the 5th district. Leadership debates are not a common occurrence in Malta, with the last live debate occurring in 2017 between Joseph Muscat and Simon Busuttil.

As rallies push forth the proposals by all parties, live debates put the leaders under pressure as their ideas are challenged directly by the opposition.

Robert Abela also revealed that there will be more debates during the entire campaign and will not only feature him and the Opposition leader. More details on the debate are still set to be revealed.

Following the election announcement, calls for a sit-down conversation with Maltese podcaster Jon Mallia acquired media attention, as Bernard Grech accepted the invitation. Robert Abela has not yet commented on this.

“I was the target of many unjust attacks, some due to being a female politician,” says Cutajar

In an exclusive first sit-down interview since her resignation, MP & Labour candidate Rosianne Cutajar said that she was the target of many unjust attacks on her, some of which due to her being a female politician.

Cutajar stated that half-truths are sometimes worse than lies and that “the media knows that when you insert a personal element, especially when there is a female politician, the story will sell more.” She went on to express that the choice of certain photos and “clickbait titles” were unfair on her and other female politicians.

During the interview, she called on the media to shoulder the responsibility they carry in the face of discrimination, highlighting that it should perpetuate and reflect certain stereotypes and inequalities in society and be an instrument of change in mentality.

Despite such attacks, the Labour MP stated that when she chose to step aside, she still wanted to contribute politically.

Malta could be getting new sports complexes and gardens

Malta could be getting new sports complexes and gardens

The Ministry for Social Accommodation have just launched seven major projects in five different Maltese localities, some of which include sports complexes and environmental spaces.

One of the first projects would the see the construction of two sports complexes in Siġġiewi as well as the greening of Ħ’Attard through two new gardens.

Two Mosta gardens would be receiving restoration, followed by the infrastructural updates of an existing sports complex in Ħal Qormi. This project was brought about thanks to a €1 million investment from the Housing Development Fund, which falls under the remit of the Housing Authority.

Minister for Social Accommodation Roderick Galdes, alongside Parliamentary Secretary for Citizenship and Communities Alex Muscat, announced the incentive during a press conference today.

The project is aiming to have better suited recreational areas for Malta’s youth, with the green incentives also pushing the government’s plan to have more gardens in Malta’s urban areas.

Roderick Galdes said that the government’s vision has motivated them to create a housing development fund. ‘A fund which is already bearing the desired fruit, because today we have announced seven much needed projects distributed over Maltese localities.’

“Everyone was friends with Yorgen Fenech,” Rosianne Cutajar tells all in first sit-down interview

“God forbid that every time an allegation is made about a colleague, we stop talking to them,” these were the words of Labour MP and candidate Rosianne Cutajar in an exclusive first sit-down interview since her resignation.

Cutajar had resigned from her post as Parliamentary Secretary due to questions of ethical conduct with business tycoon Yorgen Fenech, who stands accused of complicity in the assassination of journalist Daphne Caruana Galizia. In our latest episode of ‘The Interview with Fabian Demicoli’, Cutajar highlighted that it is ironic how the individuals who have access to Fenech’s messages are using them for ‘misleading purposes’, referring to Nationalist MP Jason Azzopardi.

The labour candidate highlighted how there are also messages between Nationalist Party members and Fenech, suggesting that since Jason Azzopardi is a lawyer in the case against against Yorgen Fenech, he can use them whenever he deems necessary. She went on to highlight how there is a court ban on the leaking of such chats.
