Privately owned Ukrainian carrier SkyUp Airlines has decided to put an end to heels and pencil skirts after collecting feedback from flight attendants about their uniform. Following concerns by employees expressing their pain due to swollen feet after hours of standing up, the new uniform includes white Nike sneakers and a loose orange suit with trousers and a silk scarf. With white t-shirts replacing blouses, all will be made by Ukrainian brands.
The company said they researched the history of cabin crew uniforms and decided to do away with what they deemed ‘conservative’ elements of a flight attendant’s look. Braids will also replace a tight bun or ponytail hairstyle. Head of the airline’s marketing department Marianna Grygorash said that despite the image of a female flight attendant is very romanticised, the job actually demands a lot of physical training. With a new uniform for the male crew, the switch up from heels-to-sneakers will launch on October 22nd.
