UK Minister faces severe backlash after leaked proposal to pay £500 to COVID-19 positive people

Matt Hancock, UK Secretary of State for Health and Social Care faced backlash after proposing that everyone who tests positive for COVID-19 be paid £500.

The reasoning behind it is to encourage people who test positive to go for a swab test, and self-isolate. This information was leaked and substantial backlash was directed towards Hancock due to the fact that this would amount to around half a billion pounds a week.

Since the 14th-20th of January 1,029 rapid tests were carried out at the airport; 2 found positive

Prof. Charmaine Gauci announced that airport testing is still being enforced and taken seriously. As from the 14th of January up until the 20th of January,  1,029 rapid tests were performed at the Malta International Airport and 2 were found positive.

Positive cases were immediately asked to quarantine in order to avoid spreading the virus. The two imported cases came from Poland (15th Jan) and Bulgaria (16th Jan).

143 COVID-19 cases registered overnight with 201 recoveries

Malta has registered 143 new cases of COVID-19 in the past 24 hours from 3,111 swab tests, while 201 patients have recovered. This information was announced by the official Facebook page of Malta’s Ministry for Health.

As of Thursday 21st January 2021, 16,531 vaccine doses were administered.

To date, Malta has registered 16,423 COVID-19 cases in total, of which: 13,435 have recovered, 248 died and 2,740 are still active.

Haley Bugeja draws interest from some of Europe’s best Football Clubs

Replay has reported that Haley Bugeja, 16-year-old Maltese Football player who is dominating in her debut at the female football Seria A, has been garnering interest from some of Europe’s best Football Clubs.

The website tuttocalciofemminile.com has reported that among the clubs who are interested in the U.S. Sassuolo player, Bugeja, is Juventus (whom Nicole Sciberras already plays for).

Replay has also been informed that it is not just Italian clubs who are interested in Bugeja but also other European clubs, however, no information regarding actual offers is yet confirmed.
