Man Who Bought Pizza.com For $20 Sold It For $2.6 Million

Man Who Bought Pizza.com For $20 Sold It For $2.6 Million

Chris Clark, an American consultant, made headlines in 2008 when he sold the domain pizza.com for a staggering $2.6 million.

Clark originally registered the domain in 1994, during the early days of the internet, hoping it might help his consulting firm secure contracts with pizza companies.

Despite selling his business in 2000, he chose to keep the domain, paying the modest $20 annual renewal fee and using the site to host ads.

Years later, inspired by the news that vodka.com had sold for $3 million, Clark decided to see what pizza.com might fetch. In January 2008, he listed the domain in an online auction, quickly attracting attention.

Bidding started at $100 but surged rapidly, reaching $2.6 million within just one week. The sale, finalised during the height of the 2008 financial crisis, highlighted the exceptional value of a simple, memorable domain name.

Today, pizza.com remains largely unchanged, featuring a basic layout with advertisements and a message inviting inquiries about the domain’s purchase.

Reflecting on the sale, Clark expressed some regret at not registering more domains in the internet’s early days, yet the success of his venture into the digital space made an enduring mark on the domain market.

Project Green’s Garden Project In Kirkop Receives Green Light

Project Green's Garden Project In Kirkop Receives Green Light

Project Green has received approval from the Planning Authority to develop a new multifunctional green space on Triq Nerik Scerri in Kirkop, a site previously designated for development.

The project was transferred to Project Green by the Lands Authority, alongside three other sites in Lija, Luqa, and Ta’ Giorni, to create green spaces in urbanised areas.

A tender for the project will soon be issued, and work will begin on transforming the 1,600-square-meter site into a community-friendly park.

The garden will be located within a 10-minute walk for about 300 households and will focus on sustainability.

It will feature 59 trees to provide natural shading and eco-friendly, porous pathways for walking and cycling. Approximately 75% of the materials used will be sustainably sourced, and a water reservoir will be added for efficient irrigation.

Designed to cater to all ages, the park will include interactive play zones, a treehouse for children, herb gardens, and pollinator-friendly areas.

Picnic benches will provide resting spots for visitors. Environment Minister Miriam Dalli emphasised the goal of ensuring every community has access to green spaces within a 10-minute walk. CEO Joseph Cuschieri highlighted the project’s role in creating sustainable, community-focused spaces that enhance both ecological impact and quality of life for Kirkop residents.
