Stormwater Project In Żurrieq To Reduce Flooding Issues

Sep 12 2024 Share

In recent days, the Public Works Department has commenced a significant stormwater project in the Tal-Bebbux area of Żurrieq to address the persistent flooding issues.

This new system, spanning around 140 meters, will eventually connect to the existing flood relief infrastructure that channels water into Blue Grotto Avenue. With an investment of approximately €160,000, the project aims to mitigate flood risks and manage rainwater more effectively.

During a site visit, Parliamentary Secretary for Public Works, Omar Farrugia, emphasized the importance of this rainwater collection and retention system for the local residents. He noted that the project complements other recent infrastructure works in Żurrieq, designed to reduce flooding and improve rainwater management.

Architect Mario Ellul explained that the project involves the installation of culverts along the road, complete with pipes and rainwater retention boxes.

Żurrieq Mayor, Rita Grima, highlighted how essential this initiative is, particularly in providing much-needed relief to residents during the winter months.

Flappy Bird Finally Making Much Anticipated Return

Sep 12 2024 Share

Flappy Bird, the iconic mobile game where players guide a bird through a series of pipes, is making a return. Originally launched over a decade ago and quickly becoming a viral sensation and popular time-killer, the game was famously pulled from app stores at the height of its popularity.

Now, with the game’s rights acquired by a new group, a revamped version is set to be released on iOS, Android, and PC platforms, targeting a 2025 launch.

The original Flappy Bird was developed by indie creator Dong Nguyen, but the upcoming re-release will come from the “Flappy Bird Foundation.”

This group also holds the rights to Piou Piou, a game widely regarded as one of the inspirations for Flappy Bird. Kek, the developer of Piou Piou and a founding member of the Flappy Bird Foundation, leads this effort.

With ownership of both the original Flappy Bird and its predecessor, the foundation is preparing to reintroduce the game with new content, aiming for a faithful yet refreshed experience.

“Today marks a personal milestone, as well as one for gaming,” Kek commented on Flappy Bird’s comeback. “It’s amazing to see how Piou Piou has influenced developers and captured the attention of millions of gamers over the years. Working with a team that is so passionate about revitalizing the original Flappy Bird and shaping the industry narrative is truly inspiring.”
