Two New Horses & Carriers As Part Of Investment In Police’s Mounted Section

The Malta Police Force’s Mounted Section has undergone recent enhancements as part of broader modernisation efforts, aligning with its Transformation Strategy 2020-2025.

The two new horse-carriers valued at over €200,000, have been procured. These custom-built platforms can safely transport two horses at a time and two new horses have been introduced to the team, brought over from Ireland at a cost of more than €30,000.

The Malta Police’s Mounted Section is responsible for a variety of duties, including ceremonial roles, community engagement, and patrolling. Their presence not only enhances visibility but also fosters approachability within the community.

The retiring horses will be donated to the Second Chance Horse Sanctuary in the UK, where they will be given a well-earned rest and cared for in their retirement.

The Puttinu Cares Good Friday Marathon On 18th April 2025

Twenty years ago, patients and their families who needed to travel to England for treatment had to find and pay for their own accommodation.

This added to the hardship they were already going through. Puttinu Cares recognised this problem and felt the need to find a way to help in this situation.

“We started by helping children suffering from cancer, and over the years, Puttinu also extended its support to adults.”

Today, between 60 and 90 patients travel to the UK EVERY MONTH, with the majority going to hospitals in central London.

Renting an apartment in England costs thousands, especially if one has to stay for months or even years.

“Puttinu Cares already has 20 apartments near the Royal Marsden Hospital in Sutton, and now we have invested in another project located just 10 minutes’ walk from Great Ormond Street Hospital, near Russell Square.”

“Puttinu believed that, since the Maltese and Gozitan people are generous and eager to help those who are sick, we needed to invest the donations wisely. We spent seven years searching intensively to find a property that is freehold, ensuring that the building remains property of the Maltese people forever.”

“We registered the Puttinu Cares Foundation as a voluntary organisation in the UK so that we could save on VAT rates when paying for construction work.”

The father of the recently joined Maltese team footballer James shared a number of images of the family in various locations in Malta (and Poland) as his son makes his international debut.

These include photos at the Ta’ Qali National Stadium as well as the Triton Fountain, with the post amassing over 8,000 likes.

The 22 year old Wigan Athletic defender, who recently gained Maltese citizenship through his grandfather, was handed his first start in Malta’s qualifier against Finland.

Malta’s head coach Emilio De Leo announced that Carragher would be joining the official roster of players for the 2026 Fifa World Cup European Qualifiers.

FKNK Submits Turtle Dove Hunting And Research Proposal To Minister Clint Camilleri

On Saturday, March 22, 2025, the Federation for Hunting and Conservation (FKNK) presented its proposals to the Honourable Minister for Gozo, Clint Camilleri.

The proposals call for the opening of the turtle dove hunting season this spring and the regulated capture of quails using traditional nets as part of a scientific research project.

The FKNK has requested the hunting season to run from April 21 to May 4, 2025, with a total limit of 1,500 birds.

The organisation believes that this project will contribute valuable data to the scientific community while maintaining a controlled and regulated approach to hunting.

Despite a series of legal setbacks, including a ruling from the European Court of Justice in 2009 and previous unsuccessful attempts to stop the spring hunting season, BirdLife Malta have filed an injunction to prevent the season’s opening.

In response to this legal challenge, the FKNK has submitted its proposals directly to Minister Camilleri, expressing full confidence in his judgement and understanding of the issue.
