Two men arrested after being caught stealing in Ħaz-Żabbar

 Immediate action by the Police in relation to a theft report led to two people being arrested.

At around 0200hrs, the Police received information that a robbery was taking place at a construction site in Triq Patri Felician Grech, Żabbar.

The Police immediately went to the scene, heard some noises and even noticed suspicious movements.

They went inside and searched each floor. As soon as they arrived upstairs, the Police found a man hiding behind a door and he was arrested.

Due to suspicion that there were more people inside, the Police continued with the searches and in another part of the same building, a second person was arrested, who was found hiding under some plastic.

From investigations carried out it emerged that the two men were using a vehicle, which was found parked in Triq il-Berebis and from which several tools, wires and extensions were lifted.

The Police also carried out searches in the residences of the two arrested and several other items were found there, including a chaser, a large amount of tools and wires.

The arrested, two men aged 51 and 46, both residents of Birżebbuġa, were taken to the Police lock-up in Floriana for further investigations.

Malta Police warns about misleading scam text messages

In light of a number of reports, Malta Police are appealing to the public to be aware of misleading text messages that are being sent in the name of local banks.

These messages are being sent in the name of BOV and HSBC and are asking people to visit a fake website and provide their bank card details.

Police are appealing to the public to ignore such messages and more importantly to not click on any links.

46 new Correctional Services Agency officers

46 recruits became officers within the Correctional Services Agency, with 26% of the new recruits being female officers.

The appointment of these officers took place in the Kordin Correctional Facility, in the presence of the Minister for the Interior, Security, Reforms and Equality Byron Camilleri and the Chief Agency Executive Christopher Siegersma.

These officers went through an intensive 16-week course that started last October and which included among others: academic training, physical training, first aid training, firefighting, and even mental health training with Richmond Foundation, among various other topics.

The best recruit award was given to TCO 07 Magdylon Briffa, who got the highest marks in every training held during the recruitment.

King Kazu makes history as he joins Oliveirense a month before his 56th birthday

Kazuyoshi Miura, known as “King Kazu,” continues to make history as he joins Portuguese club Oliveirense on loan just a month before his 56th birthday.

The former Japan international has had a remarkable career spanning 38 seasons and six different countries, including Brazil, Japan, Italy, Croatia, and Australia.

Miura began his professional journey in 1986 at Brazilian club Santos and returned to Japan to lead Verdy Kawasaki to back-to-back titles when the J-League launched in 1993.

He became the first Japanese player to play in the Italian Serie A and is the second-highest scorer for the Japan national team.

Miura has been with Yokohama FC or on loan from them for 19 seasons and recently played for Suzuka Point Getters, managed by his brother.

In 2017, he made history by becoming the oldest player to score in a professional match and helped Yokohama secure promotion to the top division in Japan in 2019.

“King Kazu” has promised to bring his unique style of football to his new surroundings at Oliveirense.
