The police immediately went to the location and in the same street noticed the two individuals who matched the given description.

They were stopped and a search revealed they were in possession of a hatchet, a machete, and a quantity of jewelry. At that moment, they were arrested on the spot and taken to the station for further investigation.

During the investigations, the police discovered that the jewelry found in the possession of the arrested individuals had allegedly been stolen from a residence on Triq Ta’ l-Imdawra, in Naxxar, just a short time before.

The investigations also revealed that a few days ago a vehicle was stolen from the same property and damage was done to several vehicles in the same area, allegedly by the same youths who were arrested.

The two individuals, an Englishman residing in St. Paul’s Bay and a Maltese resident of Mosta, will be arraigned in court in the coming days. The police investigations are ongoing.

In accordance with the Bathing Water Directive, the Environmental Health Directorate of the Superintendence of Public Health has issued a notice advising against bathing at a particular site due to microbiological contamination.

The contamination, caused by E. coli and I. enterococci, poses a significant health risk to swimmers.

Environmental Health Officers are currently investigating to identify the source of the contamination. At this stage, it is unclear how long the contamination will persist, and therefore, the advisory remains in effect until further notice.

To ensure public safety, warning signs have been installed in the affected area, clearly indicating the health risk. These signs will remain in place until water quality tests confirm that the contamination has been resolved. Once it is safe to bathe again, the signs will be removed, and the public will be informed through another press release.

‘Solidarity’ March By Joseph Muscat Supporters On Court Day

'Solidarity' March By Joseph Muscat Supporters On Court Day
May 21 2024 Share

Supporters of former Prime Minister Joseph Muscat are organizing a solidarity march in Valletta on the day he faces criminal charges in court.

Muscat, along with others including Konrad Mizzi and Keith Schembri, will be charged on May 28 with money laundering, fraud, conspiracy, and participating in a criminal organization.

Magistrate Rachel Montebello will oversee the evidence compilation. The charges follow Magistrate Gabriella Vella’s inquiry into the Vitals hospitals deal, whose findings were forwarded to the Attorney General. Muscat has asserted his innocence and intends to prove the charges false.

In a recent interview on Labour Party radio, Muscat claimed that the whistleblower, an Indian national, only relayed hearsay about him, with no supporting documentation. He emphasized that no concrete evidence has been presented.

It was revealed that Muscat, Schembri, and Mizzi are suspected of receiving bribes from a €1 million political support fund managed by Steward Health Care. This fund was controlled by Accutor AG, a Swiss company that received €3.6 million from Steward during their acquisition of a 30-year concession for three Maltese state hospitals from Vitals Global Healthcare.

The inquiry, initiated by Repubblika in 2019, led to a police search of Muscat’s home in January 2022, where several electronic devices were seized. Muscat had unsuccessfully attempted to remove Magistrate Vella from the inquiry, citing a conflict of interest due to her relatives’ public criticism of him and concerns over inquiry leaks.
