The young boy was described in nothing but exceptional and affectionate terms by Puttinu, which went on to say that he filled every room with immense love. ‘How can we ever forget that little voice full of joy with a Gozitan accent, a smile that removes all sorrow and your hug…’

Puttinu sent their wishes and support to Matthias’ parents Joanne u David, saying that the loss will be lost forever. ‘There are now words in the face of such suffering’ said the NGO.

Young champion Kruiven Farrugia found a way to help local ALS activist Bjorn Formosa by running a 5k marathon to raise funds for the homes Formosa runs to help those in need.

At just 8-years-old, Kruiven set a massive example of charity and kindness as he set off from Imdina to San Anton Palace, raising €1 for every metre he ran.

He went on to run the race alongside his mother Charmaine and Bjorn’s wife Maria, completing the run in a total of 22 minutes. His efforts were immensely praised by Bjorn, as the young boy has managed to raise €3,863 out of his €5,000 target.

Farrugia is running to raise funds for Dar Bjorn Respite, which is a planned extension of Dar Bjorn, a community home for patients with ALS, MS and other neurological conditions. These are all run by Formosa’s foundation ALS Malta+.

On the day of the run, Bjorn wrote: Today I woke up with immense joy! The day has arrived for Kruiven!’ He went on to explain how he raised 40% of his goal and people can donate to help him achieve even more. Well done lad!

Civil Protection Malta tend to fires all across the island
Jun 5 2022 Share

Civil Protection Malta had a busy day yesterday as multiple fires were reported across both Malta and Gozo, primarily due to the explosion in Mosta at the 15th August fireworks factory.

In Mgarr, Gozo, a grass fire was set off primarily due to severe heat as the island enters its first heatwave of the summer season.

One of our followers has also sent us footage of a fire which broke out at the Swatar Park in Msida, probably also caused by the first heatwave of the season. The Civil Protection was quick to converge onto the scene to control the fires.

Well done to all those involved for keeping everyone safe.

Government and Renzo Piano in talks to restore Valletta open theatre roof

Government and Renzo Piano in talks to restore Valletta open theatre roof
Jun 5 2022 Share

In an interview on Andrew Azzopardi’s talkshow on 103 Malta’s Heart, National Heritage Minister Owen Bonnici revealed that the government is in talks to roof the open theatre in Valletta.

The Minister revealed that the government intends to roof the open theatre in collaboration with the renowned Italian architect Renzo Piano.

The Italian architect had designed theatre as part of the €85 million regeneration of Freedom Square as well as the new Parliament building when under the previous Nationalist administration.

Bonnici said that despite the theatre being beautiful and aesthetically pleasing, it is not functional as it is without a roof. He also made reference to the controversy which arose after the Lawrence Gonzi PN administration kicked off plans to rebuild the former opera house after it sustained damages in WWII.

The plans had faced criticism by the Labour Party, with former leader Joseph Muscat meeting the architect to discuss changes to the projects after being elected in 2013.
