Local plus-size model hits international headlines with empowering message

Local plus-size model hits international headlines with empowering message

Emily Jones, a 31-year-old model who lives in London and Malta, posed in lingerie to show that larger bodies are beautiful and desirable, breaking mainstream modelling stereotypes in the process. Emily is a plus sized model and body positivity activist who has spoken out about seeing larger bodies in the media, saying lingerie helps her to feel like the main character.

The influencer, who also campaigns for invisible disability awareness, recently posted a message on her page about plus size representation in the media – or lack thereof. Her message was captured by international news portals such as the Daily Star, highlighting how Emily noted that ‘fat characters’ on TV were rarely the centre of the story.

The model went on to pose in a snap wearing a pretty white satin bra with Lacey straps held off to the side and her long brown hair hanging curly and loose.

‘Growing up, I never saw bodies like mine in magazines, on tv, or in films – especially not represented in any serious, attractive or desirable way. Fat characters were always just the sidekick, the comedy act, but certainly never the main character.’ Emily highlighted how social media allowed her to break this trend, receiving massive support from her fans and followers who commended her for standing up for these oft unheard voices.

Gozitans with massive donation of essential items for Ukrainian refugees

Gozitans with massive donation of essential items for Ukrainian refugees
Mar 1 2022 Share

As the invasion of Ukraine by Putin’s Russia continues, many Gozitans came together to provide essential items for all the struggling citizens.

People from all over the island came to the aid of the Ukrainians by giving away crucial items – with everything from food to medicine, bedsheets, hygienic items, clothes and other supplies.

The charity was organised the Għajnsielem square in Gozo, bringing together some of the best traits of the island’s residents to help other people who are currently experiencing the abandonment of their home, insecurity about their safety and the loss of loved ones.

Posting to Facebook, Masha Cutajar thanked all the Gozitan people who donated to the refugees. She said that she did not expect to collect so much, and commended the Gozitans for their big hearts.

The Russian invasion of Ukraine has continued on as many take shelter in underground subways or join the military as volunteer soldiers to fight off the advancing Russian forces.

Just yesterday, Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed an application to join the EU, with EU President Ursula von der Leyen saying that Ukrainians are ‘one of us and we want them in.’

Many have pledged to help the Ukrainians in their own way, with Malta agreeing to send medicinal help to Ukrainians and even fly those seriously ill to our shores for treatment. Meanwhile, Russia is being sanctioned by many other countries as the entire world deals with the consequences of the invasion.
