Tourist Smashes KM Malta Airlines Window During Flight

Sep 11 2024 Share

A British tourist has been fined €3,000 and ordered to compensate KM Malta Airlines after breaking an interior window on one of its planes while flying over the Alps on Sunday during a flight from London to Malta.

“It’s the stupidest thing I’ve done in my life. I know I’ve let my parents and family down. This isn’t me. I’m so, so sorry,” said the 33-year-old tourist, Anand Rajesh Ganatra, who pleaded guilty and apologised in court.

The court was informed that a fellow passenger threw something at Ganatra, likely teasing him, which caused him to overreact and smash his hand against the perspex window. His right-hand thumb and middle finger were bandaged.

The damage caused to the thick inner windowpane was calculated at €2,125, which he will have to reimburse. The tourist stated in court that he was willing to pay the amount immediately “by debit or credit card.”

Safi Demonstration Demands Release Of Detained Ethiopians

Activists protested outside the Safi Detention Center on Tuesday, demanding the release of five Ethiopians facing deportation.

The five, who had been living and working legally in Malta for two decades, were detained after their refugee status was rejected.

The Ethiopian community, along with employers and activists, condemned the government’s actions, highlighting the men’s contributions to Malta’s economy and society.

Moviment Graffitti emphasised that the men had built their lives in Malta, paying taxes, forming social networks, and becoming integral to the country’s social fabric.

The activists argued that sending them back to Ethiopia would expose them to persecution and urged authorities to offer a pathway for long-term migrants to regularise their status.

Criticising government raids on homes and workplaces, the group called these actions “state violence” that forces undocumented people to live in fear. Employers also voiced their concerns, stressing the valuable role migrants play in Malta’s workforce and society.

The protesters demanded the immediate release of the detained men, an end to government raids, and the creation of a legal pathway for undocumented but long-standing community members to secure their immigration status and contribute to the nation’s development.

Camenzuli Goal Hands Malta 1-0 Victory Over Andorra
Sep 11 2024 Share

Malta secured their first UEFA Nations League win with a 1-0 victory over Andorra, thanks to a crucial goal by Ryan Camenzuli just before halftime.

After a disappointing loss to Moldova, pressure mounted on coach Michele Marcolini and his side. The match saw a balanced start, but Malta gradually took control.

Midway through the first half, the team had multiple scoring opportunities, with Joseph Mbong and Carlo Zammit Lonardelli both coming close. Camenzuli finally broke the deadlock after a smart pass from Matthew Guillaumier.

The second half was more tense, with Andorra pushing for an equalizer. Bonello’s heroics kept Malta in the lead, while Andorra came close several times, including a near-miss by Jordi Alaez.

Despite intense pressure in the final moments, Malta held firm to secure a much-needed win. They now aim to build on this momentum for their next game against Moldova.

Well done boys!
