Despite being planned to welcome 70,000 each weekend, Tomorrowland 2021 has officially been cancelled. The event was set to happen August 27th to the 29th and September 3rd to the 5th, but the mayor of Boom and Rumst did not give the green-light for the festival’s proposed dates. The reason permission was not given, according to the mayor, was due to the lack of the Ministerial Decree which states that only events up to 400 people would be possible.
More reasons were followed-up, stating that pressure would be placed on police if any COVID-19 passport checking were to take place. This would use up too much police resource and police time. The team behind the giant festival expressed the heartbreaking news by saying that ‘the mayor of Boom and his council have indicated to us that we can go to the council of state against this decision.’ There have been no further updates so far, but the team hopes that people attending will hear more clarity.
