For the first day of June, summer lovers on the Maltese islands will be treated to a scorching temperature of 36°C as we move into the first heat wave of summer 2022.

As reported by Facebook page ‘It-Temp Madwarna’, the weather today is set to be intensely hot and dry, with a light wind of Force 2 to 3.

The sea will start out lightly wavy but will calm down during the day, making perfect welcome to beachgoers as they finally dip in their feet for a well needed refresh.

And we’ll need it as the highest temperature will climb up to 35 degrees Celsius, with the lowest still being pretty hot at 23 degrees Celsius. Furthermore, make sure you pack sunscreen as UV will reach an intensity of 10.

The rest of the week, as forecasted earlier, will be sunny all the way through to next week. Temperatures are set to feel as hot as 34 degrees Celsius throughout, making today a taster of what is to come.

Police were informed yesterday evening at around 2230hrs that their assistance was needed in an establishment in Triq il-Wilga.

The road is situated around a corner from Triq id-Dragunara, San Giljan, with District Police and Rapid Intervention Unit (RIU) convening immediately on site. Preliminary investigations found that a man of Spanish nationality entered the establishment, grabbed a broken glass bottle and a knife and started to threaten the people inside.

The police went to arrest the man, but he was violent even in his confrontation with the officers. Police had to use a taser to control the man and subsequently arrest him. He was later taken to Mater Dei for medical observation.

Other investigations showed that the man had caused damage to a Ford Focus which was being driven by a 28-year-old Pakistani before entering the building. Three other men were taken to Mater Dei, hurt by the man’s attacks. A Swedish man was certified as having suffered grievous injuries due to the knife attack, with two Italian men suffering light injuries.

The motivation behind the attack is as of yet unknown, but an inquiry has been opened and police are investigating the case further.

Doctor issues warning so people stop peeing in the shower

Doctor issues warning so people stop peeing in the shower
May 31 2022 Share

A doctor has issued a warning to stop peeing in the shower, making some worrying statements for those who engage in the practice.

Urogynaecologist Dr Teresa Irwin, who specialises in pelvic health, explained to an audience of 84,700 TikTok followers that by peeing in the shower, people are training their bladders to want to wee whenever they hear the sound of water.

“You don’t want to do it all the time because what happens is every time you hear the sound of water your bladder is going to want to pee” claimed the doctor.

She said that this would eventually trickle (pun intended) to when washing one’s hands or the dishes, making the bladder ‘salivate’, so to speak. This echoes warnings by other TikTok doctors.

The doctors said that either now or down the line, the mental association will lead to some leak issues whenever leaking water is heard. Instead, people are urged to ignore the urge to pee while in the shower.
