In a Facebook post, The Malta Records shared their latest national achievement a towering sunflower that has officially been recognised as the tallest ever grown in Malta.

The new record, standing at an impressive 3.6 metres (approximately 12 feet), was set by Friends of the Earth Malta, a local environmental NGO dedicated to sustainable living and climate action.

This giant sunflower breaks the previous record, which had only been certified a few weeks ago – proving that Malta’s green thumbs are reaching new heights!

A main road in the heart of Rabat (Victoria), Gozo, was recently closed off in a manner that has raised eyebrows among residents and local authorities.

“This isn’t the way to close a road. You’d think you were witnessing a scene straight out of Jurassic Park!” remarked Mayor of Victoria, Brian Azzopardi.

Yesterday, the Ammunition & Explosives Squadron of the 3rd Regiment, Armed Forces of Malta (AFM), was alerted to a startling discovery.

A pre-World War I unexploded ordnance (UXO) was uncovered during excavations works.

‘A team from the EOD, IEDD & Divers Platoon was deployed to investigate the UXO, which was identified as a 5.5” British Armour-Piercing Solid Shot.’

The explosive was safely removed from the site and the safety of the surrounding area ensured.
