This is one of the few traditions of its kind on the island, and the holy figure of Jesus having risen after the crucifixion is carried by enthusiasts down the street.

As seen here, enthusiasts run down parts of the locality with the heavy statue in celebration of the religiously significant feast.

As per Maltese tradition, statues of the risen Jesus Christ are carried around in various localities in Malta and Gozo as people celebrate this religious feast with their loved ones.

The carriers run with the statue in various localities to celebrate the culmination of the suffering, crucifixion and rising of the Son of God according to Biblical scripture.

Here, in a video posted by Malta Info Guide, we see the statue being carried around in Qala, Gozo. Various localities engage in this practice, this year more energetically given the three year restrictions COVID-19 forced on the entire world.

Happy Easter!
