This placed her up 4kg from Italian runner up Ludovica Celine Delia, whose overall total of 172kg came through a best 77kg in the snatch and 95kg in Clean and Jerk. Turkey’s Merve Ilden came in third place.

The vehicles involved were a Mazda Demio driven by a 44-year-old Marsascala resident who was heading towards his home locality; an Opel Corsa driven by a 28-year-old Nepalese man; Hyundai i30 driven by a 65-year-old Raħal Ġdid resident; and a Piaggio Vespa motorcycle driven by the 25-year-old.

The latter three vehicles were driving in the opposite direction, with a 31-year-old Nepalese woman also in the Opel Corsa. Civil Protection officers had to convene on site as some of the victims ended up stuck in their vehicles.

Hunting federation hits back at Canadian warnings for tourists visiting Malta

Hunting federation hits back at Canadian warnings for tourists visiting Malta
Aug 13 2022 Share

NGO Federation for Hunting and Conservation – Malta (FKNK) has hit back at warnings issued to tourists visiting the Maltese islands in regards to stray bullets and lack of safety.

This follows warnings for tourists to watch out for hunting areas next to campsites as well as dangerous drivers, amongst other things, going viral on local social media.

In their open letter, the FKNK said that ‘incorrectness and seriousness of the several ‘warnings’ given to would-be visitors to Malta, regarding our traditional socio-cultural passions of hunting practices, can only be mildly termed as unbelievable!’

The statement addresses how the hunting season in Malta is open for short duration and well-regulated ‘in conformity with EU nature laws and regulations.’ Any impression that hunting takes place 24/7 is ‘imaginary exaggeration’ it read.

The FKNK also said that the statement; ‘hunting areas, which are rarely marked, often overlap with camping areas’ is absolutely false.

When it comes to stray bullets, the FKNK said that the use of bullets and rifles for hunting purposes is not permitted in Malta. This is because the hunted species consist of migratory game and no big game is present. This means only shotguns with lead-pellet shots are used.

‘Our track record in terms of safety, despite the small size of our islands which are the most densely populated in Europe, is second to none’ it concluded, urging the relevant authorities to correct their website.

Why Netflix’s ‘The Sandman’ is trending at #1 with amazing ratings

Why Netflix’s ‘The Sandman’ is trending at #1 with amazing ratings
Aug 13 2022 Share

Netflix’s latest series, ‘The Sandman’, is currently receiving immense praise and acclaim for almost every aspect of its existence – story, filming, cast, visual effects…

Based on the comic series written by prolific author and literary giant Neil Gaiman, The Sandman is being touted as possibly even inspiring a new era of goths and moving the ‘hero’ genre away from the already established norms.

The series is bizarre to describe – the main plot follows the literal personification of dreams, Morpheus, as he is captured and thus unable to control dreams and nightmares.

However, this plot line serves as a launching off point as the episodes pull no punches in exploring creative ways to tell a story.

Some episodes are anthologies and focus on singular characters (those who’ve watched can think of the genius of the diner episode) whereas in other episodes, Morpheus takes a backseat as a mythological being who strikes deals as is done in fairy tales.

The execution was all the more fascinating given that the comic is deemed almost impossible to translate onto a screen. The story spans hundreds of years, but creators have already filmed scenes for a 5th season – just in case!

Netflix has yet to announce the renewal of the series, but the team behind it, including Gaiman, have massive plans for this saga which could just as well establish a genre by itself. Have you watched The Sandman?
