Three garden projects in three weeks announced by Minister Aaron Farrugia

Minister for the Environment Aaron Farrugia announced three separate projects in the past three weeks which will see the installation of environmentally friendly gardens installed in urban areas. The gardens will be installed in Marsa, Qormi and garden Romeo Romano in St. Venera. These gardens will seek to introduce more greenery in otherwise urban areas, leading to more recreational areas for families and the public, along with an improvement in air quality.

The Minister stated that despite Malta’s small size, there will be more projects down the line which will boost the island’s green and recreational space. These projects will also include a playground in Romeo Romano Garden as well as refurbishment of a historical building in the same space. The total investment will rack up to €2,000,000.

Maneskin in UK’s top 20 chart with ‘Zitti E Buoni’

Maneskin’s ‘Zitti E Buoni’ has managed to top the UK top 20 charts as the group celebrate their recent victory in the 2021 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest in Rotterdam. The group racked up 524 points, 25 more than the runner up Barbara Pravi, France. Zitti E Buoni sits at 17th place in the top 20 chart, with another song ‘I Wanna Be Your Slave’ on Spotify’s global top 50.

The Italian group’s song has managed to outdo all of the UK’s Eurovision entries as it becomes one of the highest charting contesting anthems of the last 10 years. The group is made up of lead vocalist Damiano David, bassist Victoria De Angelis, guitarist Thomas Raggi and drummer Ethan Torchio.

MHRA expecting a very good tourism summer season

MHRA expecting a very good tourist summer season

Speaking to Television Malta, President of the Hotels and Restaurants Association (MHRA) Tony Zahra stated that a very good summer in tourism is to be expected as the sector reopens. Despite not reaching up to pre-pandemic levels of tourism, Zahra stated that hitting a 60% of the 2019 digits, ‘month by month, period by period’, the reintegration of tourism will be a great success.

He continued by adding that bookings for holidays in Malta increase as restrictions start to ease, with countries like Germany, France, Italy, Netherlands and Denmark being prominent players in these bookings. The UK still proved to be a bit of a disappointment as it kept Malta on its amber list. Most tourists are booking an average of seven nights in Malta, all of them required to present either negative PCR tests or a complete vaccination certificate.

Chef Sean Gravina praises introduction of vaccine certificates

Renowned Maltese chef Sean Gravina was a prominent voice throughout the course of the COVID-19 pandemic. Voicing his opinions on closure of restaurants and how it will impact business owners and the sector at large, Gravina took to Facebook to express his support of the introduction of the vaccine certificates. He stated that the certificate ‘is the best decision we as a nation could have made for a balanced reopening for tourism.’

He pointed out that safeguarding local businesses and reviving tourism is no easy task but a ‘good summer with minimal risk of ever closing again’ can be achieved through a ‘balanced and pro active approach.’ He concluded by saying that ‘it was easy to simply open up the airport and let everyone come in with no negative test of certificate but that would have put us all at risk of closing again just as we did this year.’
