This rare stamp is expected to sell for over €7.07 million

A rare “penny black” English postal stamp is expected to go for over $8.25 million USD (€7.07 million) at Sotheby’s in December.

The stamp illustrates a 15-year-old Queen Victoria and has been called “unequivocally the most importance piece of philatelic history to exist” by the head of Sotheby’s treasures sale Henry House.

The stamp was first issued in 1840 and was part of a commerce and communication revolution which allowed individuals to ship a letter for just a penny. For this reason, the stamp is a representation of “the very dawn of social communication” and beyond that, it is one of three left in existence.

10% of women in Malta experienced some form of harassment, EIGE says

The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) has reported that 10% of women in Malta have experienced harassment in some shape or form over the past year.

According to the institute, 17% of women experienced some form of harassment in the past five years while 7% of women with disabilities also experienced the same harassment. Reports also show that 4% of lesbian women and 5% of bisexual women experienced physical or sexual attacks over the past five years just for being queer.

With regards to cyber harassment, 10% of women aged between 16 and 29 reported cases of intimidation over the past five years while 3% of women reported cases over cyber harassment over the past year.

While the aforementioned figures are in place, Malta’s gender violence situation could not be assessed properly due to insufficient comparable EU data.

A school district has banned any Squid Game-related costumes

With the Netflix series Squid Game becoming a global culture icon within a matter of days, it was absolutely inevitable that thousands (if not millions) of Halloween costumes stem from the television phenomenon.

With a show-related costume being nothing more than a green or pink tracksuit, an influx of Squid Game costumes was expected, but some elementary schools in New York have put their foot down on costumes related to the gruesome Netflix series, banning them altogether.

Schools in New York’s Fayetteville-Manlius district have went ahead and shut down the possibility of any costumes related to show due to the fact that they are inappropriate for children of that age. School heads have sent emails to parents stressing that ‘Squid Game has no place at schools’, encouraging their parents to keep an eye on any children who may mimic the actions of the violent series.

A South Park movie is dropping on November 26

Since its very inception, South Park established itself as a cultural phenomenon which pushes the envelope of what can and cannot be said on television shows and after years of anticipation, a brand new South Park movie is set to drop on November 26.

The film will go live on Paramount+ and little to none is known about the film except for the fact that it will be called South Park: Post Covid. Co-creator Trey Parker revealed that it will be our boys Stan, Kyle, Cartman and Kenny dealing with a world post-COVID in an attempt to get back to normal, which Parker compared to the show itself.

Paramount also revealed that yet another South Park movie will drop in December, but even less is known about the second South Park Film. The show’s creators recently signed a deal with Paramount worth up to $900 million, committing to an extension of the show for up to Season 30 as well as 14 direct-to-TV films.
