Every now and then, an establishment hits the Maltese Islands which challenges everything we know about food and invites us to escape our ordinary line of culinary thinking… and Komaki Japanese Tapas & Whiskey Bar is that place.

The project is helmed by local chef Daniel Borg Cardona, a familiar name to foodies across the island for his various popular projects such as Wagyu Bar & Kitchen and Burgers.Ink, amongst others. His latest foray into Asian hospitality is set to serve a number of Japanese delicacies, with a dessert which is unforgettable to say the least.

As shared on a recent social media, Daniel gave a glimpse of one of Komaki’s desserts Scorpion Forest, a unique dessert which is garnished with actual scorpions. The dish created by Komaki head chef Zoran is amongst other striking plates on the Tapas & Whiskey Bar’s menu, which will also include ants in some dishes.

Send this to someone who would try the Scorpion Forest.

In light of recent challenges from French MEPs with regards to her previous anti-abortion voting record, Nationalist MEP Roberta Metsola has notified other MEPs from major groups within the European Parliament that if she is elected president of the House, she will be representing the ‘majority voice’ on the current abortion issue.

Metsold told MaltaToday that as President of the Parliament, her duty is to represent the Parliament’s views, be it pro-choice or pro-life. Recently, French MEPs and members of the press persisted in their stance on the Maltese MEP’s track record on votes regarding gender equality and reproductive rights.

Back in June, Maltese MEPs together with fellow European members voted on the Matic report, which called for universal access to safe and legal abortion in the EU. Metsola, along with Nationalist MEP David Casa and Labour MEP Alex Agius voted against the report while Labour MEP Cyrus Engerer voted in favour and fellow Labour MEPs Alfred Sant and Josianne Cutajar abstained.

The Medical Association of Malta (MAM) has condemned government officials and ministers for the promotion of ‘responsible cannabis use’, stating that there is not such thing and that such a drug only cause harm to individuals’ health.

The MAM stated that ministers should hold the younger generation’s health at heart and that cannabis solely produces a short-term, artificial high with long-term pains and serious consequences like mental illness.

Referencing 124 studies on cannabis’s effect on youth free from mental health issues, the MAM highlighted how the frequent use of cannabis THC, not CBD, results in a detrimental effect on individuals psychosis and psychosocial processes. The study being highlighted can be found here.
