This Christmas tree in Gozo was made from 8,800 recycled plastic bottles

As the years roll by and the world continues to take a crack at a more sustainable environment with less waste, the Gozitan area of Fontana seems to have achieved quite the feat after lighting up a gorgeous Christmas tree made out of completely recycled material.

Minister for Gozo Clint Camilleri took to Facebook to share a few photos of the Christmas tree made from a whopping 8,800 recycled plastic bottles which were collected by members of the locality.

Camilleri stated that the activity was organised by Gozo’s ‘Fontana Goes Festive this Christmas’ with help from the ministry and explained how the entire locality collaborated to raise awareness on the excessive use of plastic around the world.

Multiple events & football matches cancelled in UK due to ongoing struggle with COVID-19

As the holidays approach, it seems like the entire world is currently under quarantine, with a number of events being called off in light of the recent emergence of the Omicron COVID-19 variant and a particular surge in cases in the UK.

With that, a number of events have been cancelled or postponed due to the recent circumstances. The sports world is currently under fire from COVID-19 with Chelsea’s Romelu Lukaku, Callum Hudson-Odoi & Timo Werner testing positive for COVID-19 while Sky Sports have reported that a number of Premier League fixtures such as Manchester United’s bout against Brighton and Leicester’s match versus Tottenham being called off due to ongoing outbreaks of COVID-19.

Elsewhere, everything from Queen Elizabeth’s pre-Christmas lunch to a jam-packed weekend of events at South London mega-club Printworks have been cancelled due to fears or an ongoing struggle with COVID-19. On 16 December 2021, 88,376 tested positive for COVID-19 in the UK from 1,635,922 tests conducted.

New fleet of ambulances inaugurated by Health Minister

Addressing a press conference, Deputy Prime Minister and Health minister Chris Fearne inaugurated a new fleet of ambulances.

Commending the level of service present in the hospital’s emergency establishment and all the workers within it, the health minister went on to reveal the new fleet of vehicles.

The ambulance system, Fearne said, is an essential part of this system. 11 new ambulances have thus been announced to give patients constant service. These ambulances will also help to reduce time when picking up patients when maintenance is required.

They are also mobile ITU vehicles equipped with he necessary tools to help patients as they make their way to the hospital.

€71,375 in undeclared cash intercepted at airport by Customs

Customs Malta intercepted a total of €71,375 in undeclared cash at the departures lounge at Malta International Airport.

Seized from four passengers, the carriers were travelling to Dubai, Turkey, Netherlands and Iraq. Three were offered an out of court settlement whereas another was placed under arrest.

Two Maltese passengers going to Dubai and Turkey were discovered to be carrying €33,200 and €17,400 respectively. One of the Customs Canine officials, Gypsy, reacted positively to the Dubai bound passenger.

The passenger said he was carrying €10,000 but checks revealed that he was carrying €18,200 on his person and €15,000 in checked in luggage.

The man travelling to Turkey was found to be carrying €17,400 during a random check. Other checks led to officials finding €10,345 on a Dutch passenger and another €10,430 intercepted by Charlie the Customs Canine on a Syrian passenger travelling to Iraq.
