The storms are upon us: lightning and rain expected later this month

According to Facebook weather page ‘Aggornament tat-Temp’, a change in weather is set for the 21st of September, brining a spread of low pressures and highly anticipated autumn weather.

The low pressure wave, accompanied by unstable weather, is set to make its way from the Ionian Sea, situated to the North-East of Malta.

This by itself is not meant to generate any storms, but given that there is a possibility of very warm waters close to the islands, the 24th and 26th of September could see a massive storm forming.

The possibly damaging weather pattern could also be impacted by an African anticyclone. This could make for a very intense introduction into the autumn and winter season.

But this could be quite a relief for all those tired from the heatwaves which dominated the summer months, especially given the record breaking temperatures we just went through.

7°C higher temperature than normal for all 3 summer months in Malta

All three summer months recorded a maximum of air temperatures over 7°C higher than the normal monthly digits.

According to the Meteorological Office, summer 2022 brought with it air temperatures which were 1.7°C higher than the seasonal norm, with a peak of 39.2°C in the middle of August.

Between the months of June and August, temperatures had a range of a 17.2°C minimum during the night in June, and a daytime maximum of the aforementioned 39.2°C in mid-August.

With an average of 27.9°C, the summer air temperature for this summer was 1.7°C high than the seasonal climate norm. June saw some new heights at 38°C, which is 9.2°C higher than the norm.

However, this did not, rather surprisingly, top the same month’s record of 41.5°C which was recorded in 2021. Sea surface temperatures were also between 2°C and 2.7°C higher than respective monthly norms.

A total of 1,084.4 sunshine hours were recorded during the summer months, which surpasses the seasonal climate norm by 43.3 hours. This comes as summer 2022 becomes the hottest in Europe’s history as heatwaves batter the continent.

Malta’s U15 with stellar victory in UEFA Youth Development Tournament

Malta’s U15 team had a stellar performance as they emerged on top of the groups competing in the UEFA Youth Development Tournament.

Beating Scotland 3-2, following a previous victory against Gibraltar with a 2-0 score, the result means that Malta emerged victorious and with maximum points in the three team group.

The Malta Football Association shared the thrilling victory to social media, saying that this is just the first lot of promising upcoming individuals coming from hubs.

The players in the first UEFA Development tournament come from the Inhobb il-Futbol Foundation, which was recently introduced by the Association itself to create more opportunities and budding athletes in the locally favourite sport.

Around mile-long queue of 20,000 people to see Queen lying at rest

20,000 people waited in a mile-long queue to see Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin in Edinburgh, waiting outside St Giles’ cathedral.

People were reportedly only allowed a couple of metres away from the coffin. They can simply linger there for a bit and say a prayer, with many people finding the experience very moving.

The line trailed far back along the paths of the city’s Meadows, with mourners gathering late on Monday evening.

As people continued to join the queues, the Salvation Army vans were offering hot drinks and rolls for the cold night ahead, with toilets and water stops stationed along the queue.
