Despite not being able to showcase the art pieces in public due to government restrictions, an online exhibition via Facebook and their website allowed the public to vote for their favourite works, with ‘Me, Myself and I’ by Ylenia Schembri from The Malta Visual and Performing Arts School and ‘Pensive Mood’ by Rana Sanugha from Maria Regina College emerging as winners.

The winners will represent Malta in the SAF Global Student Prize 2022 and have not only received a monetary prize of their own but secured a cool €2000 and €1000 respectively for the development of their art departments.

Cash-for-passport scheme reveals residency loophole in Malta

Cash-for-passport scheme reveals residency loophole in Malta
Apr 22 2021 Share

Unrestricted access to the EU via a Maltese cash-for-passport scheme has been granted to rich foreigner. The leak from a passport brokerage has revealed the information, also adding that the individuals involved need only spend less than three weeks in Malta. Thousands of emails’ caches from Henley and Partners gave a glimpse into how the ‘golden passport’ schemes operate. ‘Golden passport scheme’ refers to the mechanism by which countries sell citizenship to wealthy foreigners.

The applicants simply created a pretence that they were Maltese ‘residents’ for a full year by renting apartments and leaving them empty. Some customers allegedly paid more than €1 million under the scheme, successfully claiming they had a genuine link to Malta. The European Commission was alarmed by these disclosures, with the initial steps of potential proceedings against Malta being put into effect.

Malta starts administering Johnson & Johnson vaccine following EMA approval

Malta starts administering Johnson & Johnson vaccine following EMA approval
Apr 22 2021 Share

Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Chris Fearne has confirmed that, following recommendations by the European Medicines Agency (EMA), the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will be administered in Malta. This brings the total of vaccine brands used in Malta to 4, but unlike Pfizer, Moderna and AstraZeneca, this vaccine only requires one jab.

The vaccine was briefly halted after blood clot concerns surfaced, making it the second vaccine to get these rumours surrounding it following AstraZeneca. AstraZeneca however received a lawsuit from various EU countries, including Malta, for failing to provide the agreed amount of vaccines.

Apr 22 2021 Share

Fans of How I Met Your Mother rejoice as a new sequel series has been confirmed. And as if that wasn’t enough, the series will be starring Hillary Duff, who will play Sophie. In classic HIMYM style, Sophie will narrate the story of how she met her husband to her son throughout the year 2021 as they navigate the world of dating apps and relationships. The series will be appropriately  titled ‘How I Met Your Father.’

Duff commented, saying: ‘I’ve been incredibly lucky in my career to play some wonderful characters and I’m looking forward to taking on the role of Sophie. Whether the sequel will tie in to the original show is unclear. The original show however remains to be one of the most beloved sitcoms ever aired, and Duff stated she is immensely honoured, and a little nervous, to have been chosen to continue the series’ legacy.
