The Pope is calling on the Maltese government to treat migrants with humanity, say NGOs

Feb 13 2022 Share

Non-Governmental Organisations working in the local field of migration have stated that the Pope has sent a clear message to the Maltese Government and that is to treat migrants with humanity and dignity.

These organisations have stated that Pope Francis’ April visit to Malta and the Ħal Far Peace Lab in particular will hopefully shine a light on the trials and tribulations migrants have faced on the island, including their treatment and living conditions.

A 2021 Council of Europe report highlighted how Malta “risked jeopardising the right to life of people at sea”, with the Council’s Human Rights Commissioner calling the Safi detention centre’s living conditions ‘deplorable’.

Human rights NGO ‘Aditus Foundation’ president Neil Falzon stated how Malta has dehumanised migrants with pushbacks, detention, racism and exclusion whilst “proudly proclaiming the nation’s faith and values”, going on to highlight how the Pope has conveyed a clear message of humanity and dignity.

What do you make of this?

The next 30 minutes was very similar to the previous 90. Both teams had chances but weren’t clinical enough in front of the net. Chelsea’s winner came in the 115th minute when young star Kai Havertz stepped up and scored a late and dramatic penalty to win the tournament for the Blues. The final ended with  even more drama as in the 126th minute Palmerias player Luan Garcia recieved a straight red card for tackling Kai Havertz who was the last man in front of the Palmerias keeper.

Hundreds recall memories of infamous Havana staircase in club’s recent post

Hundreds recall memories of infamous Havana staircase in club’s recent post
Feb 13 2022 Share

A recent social media post by beloved Paceville nightclub has gone viral for all the right reasons after showing a snapshot of its infamous staircase. The club in question, Havana Club Malta, has a decade-spanning reputation for its banging hip-hop soundtrack, its bar-dangling monkey accessory and of course… the ever-iconic staircase.

Hundreds of partygoers, former and current, took to the comment section of Havana’s post, tagging their friends and recalling the multiple nights of drunken revelry without a single care in the world. One comment in particular likened the staircase to a water park’s slide while others sarcastically requested payment for the countless time they involuntarily cleaned the staircase themselves.

Back in January, Malta Daily had been informed that Havana was scheduled for a massive revamp and will remain closed until April. Sources have confirmed that the club will rock a brand new look when it reopens in a few months.

Do you have any staircase memories?
